Honestly this review has little to do with the bar itself, though the venue is welcoming and the decor is interesting enough. Most of this is about the live music they put on, this is one of my favorite places in this part of Austin to just pop in for shows when tunes are spilling out onto the street from the back. Grab a friend and grab a seat for a while, you won't regret it. View all feedback.

The ambience and music at the restaurant were great! However, the cocktails were not enjoyable at all. To say they were not tasty would be an understatement. Additionally, they were quite expensive for the lack of flavor. On top of that, I personally did not find the gimmick with the snake amusing, although some may find it entertaining. Making a good cocktail is hard, but half the step makes it easy. Great location and atmosphere. Seats in the indoor and outdoor areas are available.
Friendly bartenders and really good drinks. You can find it at 1/2 step. Enjoy outdoor seating to see, go inside and be cozy. In any case, you will enjoy!!
Wide range of whisky and unique cocktails. Bartenders were also able to request any cocktail directly at the destination. Great place for drinks with friends. If there is a cold night, there is no heat, though so conscious in winter.
Came here with a group of friends on a Saturday night, the mood was excellent- lots of energy without feeling like a cramped club and super fun. Our bartender, Marissa was so personal and funny, she gave great instructions on what cocktails we should get and it was so funny to watch them, make our drinks and listen to them, explain them all. Can't wait to go back!
Wonderfully crafted cocktails, made with real skill by people who know and love what they're doing. Best cocktails we've had during a 3 week trip by far! Worth every cent.

Absolutely amazing place! First time I ever went to this place was tonight. The bartender was awesome and even made me a really cool non-alcoholic shot to have with my friends and a drink. Huge fan and totally plan on coming again!
Always a great vibe at half step . Great music . Great food truck outside( spicy chicken) and plenty of seating outside. The craft cocktails are phenomenal and always executed perfectly.
Don’t go here! My dad ordered a standard scotch and they charged him $60, and the manager talked to the bartender and told him he was wrong for it. But apparently the manager doesn’t have the patience to withstand criticism for clear robbery, so he kicked us out! Absolutely greasy headed l here taking $60 from us, hope you enjoy your veggie melt footlong and your ripstick. Never had this experience at a bar in my life- don’t go here

If you like craftsmanship in a bartender then Half Step is a good spot for you.Order an old fashioned and watch how they prep the ice cube. It's the same quality with other drinks too.
