**Restaurant Review: A Mixed Bag Experience**
This restaurant offers a blend of delicious dishes and disappointing service. While many patrons enjoyed standout items like the Pastrami Benny and chia seed pudding, issues arose with unexpected surcharges and rushed dining experiences, particularly for larger tables. Some diners expressed discomfort due to hovering staff and lack of clear communication about pricing and service. Although the ambiance and swift service were highlighted positively, shortcomings in certain dishes left a sour taste. Overall, while the menu showcases potential, families and groups may find their dining experience compromised. Proceed with caution if you’re looking for a relaxed meal.

I absolutely love Forthright for their fresh ingredients and the fact that they don’t overdo it with salt or sugar. I ordered the quinoa bowl, and since it was chilly outside, I requested it to be served warm instead of with cold salad greens. It was incredibly delicious, especially with the addition of an egg. It left me feeling great the entire day! I also enjoyed their warm homemade cashew milk. My partner had the mushroom toast along with a matcha latte made with cashew milk. We hadn’t been back to Forthright since the pandemic began, and we missed it so much. We’re so glad to see it still thriving!
One of my favorite spots in Austin. Great ambiance, service, and food (highly recommend the Pastrami Hash). Can’t wait to come back
I've been wanting to try Forthright ever since I moved to Austin. Although I placed a reservation for inside, I was seated outside. This made it a bit noisy; however, the weather was lovely and the table and chairs were comfy. I ordered the avocado toast on gluten free bread. It was delicious! Fresh and simple. It was a little pricey for the amount of food I got; then again, I don't mind supporting a local business during these tough financial times. Will definitely be back to try some of their other tasty options!

Great spot for breakfast. A/C, good coffee, eggs done perfect. Highly recommended.
Very friendly, fast service, reasonably priced. Great GF options, especially the breakfast burrito waffle. One of our brunch favorites!
Upon our first steps into this establishment it was obvious we were not welcome. The look of disgust on the employees face was beyond overkill for the fact that we had a 5 yo and 2yo twins accompanied by FOUR adults. (They were very well behaved) We ordered 5 meals and were charged a 22% forced tip for a large group?! The employee hovered over while the bill was paid encouraging an extra tip!! (We received no more service than is normal and I would say actually less) I personally had the French toast, it was good, the other dishes were nothing spectacular and some were missing ingredients noted in the description that would be hard to miss. It’s unfortunate because we were truly excited to check this place out. Would not recommend especially if you are a family with young children.
Fantastic food and service! There are seating options both indoors and outdoors.

The experience didn't justify the cost. We ordered a Bloody Mary, which was served warm and hadn't been shaken properly. The basket of biscuits offered bite-sized pieces that were quite dry. The chilaquiles had a salsa that was overly tangy; I enjoy sour flavors, but this was excessive. The al pastor hash contained only two pieces of potato and was just mediocre.
I enjoyed brunch on a lively Saturday, and since I was dining solo, I quickly found a seat at the bar. The latte was delightful, and the coconut chia pudding was quite tasty as well. However, the highlight for me was the Pastrami Benny—it really surpassed my expectations! You might be surprised, but this is some genuinely unique cooking. It's definitely worth a visit. On a side note, I always forget to take pictures before I start eating, so any shortcomings in my food photos aren’t Forthright's fault!
I had the pastrami hash and absolutely loved it. The crispy potatoes paired with the pastrami were just perfect. The cocktails were a bit on the pricey side at $15 for a larger mimosa, but I felt they were worth it. My sister ordered the michelada, and it was honestly the best one I've ever had, no contest.
I stopped by Forthright Cafe for a quick weekday lunch, and it truly met my expectations! We enjoyed the waffles served with blueberry compote, along with mushroom toast and avocado toast. Every dish was fresh and perfectly balanced in flavor. Simply delicious!
