I was gifted a brewery tour and I would highly recommend it. Shakespeare Gasthof is the oldest microbrewery of NZ and preserves invaluable brew and architecture history. We had a wonderful guide who was not only extremely knowledgeable, but also very personal and welcoming. A great experience! View all feedback.
125 year old pub with great staff and traditional Kiwi food. Upstairs for a quiet chat, downstairs for a bit more atmosphere.
Great venue for 60th birthday celebration. Yummy food outstanding service and hospitality Saleem and the team are awesome. We’ll be back! Thank you
The ribs and lamb shank were great, as was the share platter. The chicken cordon bleu was overcooked, but okay. They were short-staffed so service was slow but the guys were very friendly and apologetic. We didn't stay at the hotel, just used the restaurant.
Really friendly staff and great service. Excellent beer. The food was delicious. The pub has an awesome atmosphere. The rooms are what you would expect in an old hotel (small and dated) and the noise from local nightlife goes on until 5am...BUT if you are wanting a night out in town, other pubs and sites within walking distance, and are not wanting to spend much time in the hotel room, this place is perfect. We had a fantastic date night and would stay again.
We had dinner in the restaurant. Very strange experience, as when we were seated by the bar tender, she said she'd be right over to take care of us. Never happened. Another young lady came to take our drink orders and only remembered 3 out of the 4 we ordered. Apologized and brought it. We then ordered our meals which took a while. Two showed up, and we ended up telling those folks to eat so their food wouldn't be cold. One Soda never showed up, and we never saw our server again. I had to go to the bar tender to ask for our invoice. BUT... We all thought that the Food Was Excellent! Maybe, we just weren't familiar with how a pub works... being from across the world.
