I come here every week. Sometimes more than once. It is that good. Just like the town Daikoku, I only ever go to Daikoku for lunch. I 'm sure the dinner is excellent, however the lunch special at $13.80 cannot be beaten. For such a thrifty spend, you receive a princely set menu with salad, rice, miso, chicken, fish or beef, grilled veges and ice cream for dessert! The Takapuna Daikoku has a great location, set above Hurstmere Rd with what real estate agents would probably call a glimpse of the sea . It has a large seating area with big picture windows and a lovely balcony which, due to the nature of teppanyaki cooking, has recently started serving a new Japanese tapas style menu as well as the feast that awaits at the hot plates.
Daikoku is loved by many. And for good reason. The food is great and there's entertainment! By this I mean they cook Teppanyaki style. For those who don't know, this is when the guy stand at your table and cooks on the hot plate in front of you. This can be hilarious. He'll do things like flip a salt shaker in the air and catch it in his hat, and then slice the cooked egg and make you ctach it in your mouth. A meal here is never boring. And never gross either. You can just order normal meals, but pick from the Teppanyaki style and you'll get a number of small courses. Think delicious veggies, teriyaki beef and chicken, and prawns with yum yum sauce. (Never has a sauce been more aptly named). Come with a group for a party or as a last minute choice Daikoku's food and staff will leave you smiling.
Easily five stars! I love Teppanyaki but with all things you love you can become quite picky about them. Because of this I'm always cautious when trying new teppanyaki places because I never want to be disappointed by something I love so dearly! I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's impossible to be disappointed by Daikoku. The food is absolutely amazing and you know it's quality because it's cooked right in front of you! The lunch special is the best value for money a hungry Japanese lover can buy. $14 is so not unreasonable! Especially for this mouth watering collection of greatness! Honestly you must visit! Get a crowd together, warm up your mouths ready for some egg catching extravaganzas and get ready to be so entirely and thoroughly pleased by the experience!
Fire and flips, sizzle and spice; Daikoku is a visual feast. We were celebrating a 21st birthday, and what a great idea to have the dinner here. Everyone from Grandad, to the sulky teens, to the two year old twins in high chairs was transfixed with the Teppanyaki. The chef was brilliant. He was jaw droppingly skilled and a pretty cheeky dude too. Nana took a real liking to him, which created a few amusing moments. You are fed SO much food, and as it comes out bit by bit it feels like you're eating for hours. It was delicious too; the steak in particular was cooked to perfection. It was packed that night and the atmosphere loud and fun. I would recommend Daikoku if you're after something a little different from your usual sit down meal.
Wonderful Teppanyaki. Went there for my wife's birthday and had a super evening. The food was really great and well cooked. The wine and the service was super. A perfect night for the family.
