Our visit this past week in early October was great. The greens had been aeriated approximately five days earlier, however they were reasonably playable. The rest of the course was in very good condition and the staff, as usual, were very helpful. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Washington National Golf Club:
Always wanted to play Washington National and finally got the chance with my Oki membership. Let me start of saying this review is the course and not the staff. The staff was great. But my o my does this place have some issues. Rocks sometimes the size of baseballs and plenty of gravel in multiple traps if not all. And the drainage is one of the worst I’ve ever seen on a course. Maybe it’s better in the Summer but fa... View all feedback.
The staff at the restaurant was friendly and accommodating, but the quality of the course leaves much to be desired. Many of the bunkers are filled with large rocks and clearly require maintenance. While the fairways and greens were generally acceptable, there were several areas in poor condition. Considering the high greens fees—over $100 to walk 18 holes on a weekday morning—I expected a higher standard. There are plenty of courses within a 30-minute drive that are in much better shape and charge about half the price! This course has the potential to be great, but given its current condition and cost, it might be a while before we return.
It's one of my favorite courses. The conditions are always excellent, and it's a lot of fun to play.
I was not satisfied with the clubhouse or the service. There's not much else to say. I won't be going back.
I wanted to give special recognition to Kyle (Head golf pro) and Doug (Pro shop) for their customer service. I booked a twilight tee time 1 week our and the day before the actual round, Kyle emailed me and was apologetic for having to move my tee time. My group's green fees were complimentary as a result of the change. Fantastic customer service! The actual course itself poses a number of challenges. The front 9 has generous fairways and the greens are slightly raised with heavily protected bunkering. You have to hit the ball high on the front 9 as rolling it up to the green puts all of the bunkers in play. The back 9 requires more accurate driving of the ball and less scoring opportunities if you are not hitting greens. The course is beautifully designed and flows naturally with its environment. A must play for any golfer.
Great course, sand traps are everywhere, approach shots need to avoid those steep sand traps.
