While the atmosphere boasts live music and an inviting vibe, experiences vary. Guests appreciate the friendly staff and accommodating service, particularly during busy events like karaoke night. However, some diners noted inconsistencies, such as staff shortages impacting service speed and occasional dish quality. Highlights include the Scotch egg and lava cake, while bangers and mash receive praise amidst calls for better non-alcoholic options. Overall, it’s a lively community spot, balancing classic pub fare with warmth and hospitality.
The food was excellent and the waiter was very attentive. The fish and chips were perfectly crispy and came in a generous portion. I decided to try the Scottish eggs for the first time and really enjoyed the Dijon mustard. Later in the evening, a nearby store called The Lantern held a storytelling event where customers shared life stories based on a specific prompt. It was almost like listening to poetry.
Rarebit was fantastic, but the owner was hosting some cult called The Lantern that kept approaching the table and it really turned us off. At one point we told them emphatically we were not interested, and the woman said she would leave us some materials in case we changed our minds. It was our 20th anniversary, and they wouldn 't leave us alone. By the third time someone came to the table, we were done. Im sure the owner will assure you it is not a cult, but whatever they want to call themselves they are pushy and intrusive.
Fast and friendly service, classic fish and chips with an excellent house made tarter.
We went for dessert and drinks after dinner at another restaurant. Even though we didn't order a whole meal the service was good and they were more than accommodating. When my daughter didn't like what she ordered it was exchanged with no hassle or extra charge. Also the staff work as a team meaning getting orders out looked seamless from our end as a customer. Lastly, it was St. Patrick's day and it was packed making the good service harder to pull off without complaints that we heard. The crowd was having a great time and even busy the staff was fun and put us at ease.
Food was ok if portions were a little small, had fish and chips which was good but didn't have anything to take home after not eating a ton. By far the worst service I have ever experienced; the waiter came to our table a total of 2 times, once to take the order and once to get us our food. I would understand if they were busy but we were one of 2 tables that were sat that we could see in the restaurant. The waiter was clearly too busy talking to the bartender. The music at first was pretty loud but bearable for sure, but as drag queens continued to walk to the back there was an earsplitting screech over the speaker system, guess someone does not know how to work with audio. Wont be coming back here again.
