This historic pub features low beams, an inglenook fireplace with a real wood fire, and local real ales that are well-kept. The landlord and staff are friendly and welcoming. Our room, located in the oldest part of the pub, was spacious and nicely renovated, with a large en-suite bathroom. Unfortunately this pub seems to have fallen into the trend of adding a ’discretionary service charge’ on to the bill, whether you like it or not. Few people would not want to ask for the bill to be revised, so you are effectively forced into it. It should be my choice whether I should tip. I would not return here for this reason.
