It's my second time staying here and it was as good as my first. Lovely place, very quiet. Stayed on the ground floor this time and when people walk up and down the corridor you can hear there every word. Reasonably priced. Very friendly and good service. Very clean and comfortable. Breakfast is good. If ever I'm in the area again I would definitely stay here. Rooms: 5 View all feedback.
What Abby C doesn't like about Acanthus At Macdonald Berystede And:
The bread was stale, the tables were sticky, and the staff had difficulty speaking English. They were poorly trained and couldn't answer questions about the menu. When I pointed out the stale bread, they simply toasted it and claimed it was fresh. I do not recommend this place, especially if you have dietary restrictions. It was a disgraceful and disgusting experience. View all feedback.
I have eaten at a Michelin-starred restaurant in the past, and this dining experience was just as impressive. I selected this restaurant specifically for their venison dish on the menu. Every dish was beautifully presented, and the flavors were complex and elegant. I was very impressed and would highly recommend this restaurant.
Overall, the hotel and its facilities are very good. We have visited three times, with the last two visits being very recent. The hotel is a bit outdated and in need of updates. For example, the shower holder was broken and the taps do not have mixer taps, only offering very hot or cold water. The TV could also use some updating. However, our last visit was a bad experience. We booked two family rooms for our two families, but only one room was ready and no extra beds were provided. When we called to explain, we were yelled at by a lady named 'F___', who was very rude and made us feel like it was our fault. There were no apologies, only shouting. The breakfast was good and most of the staff were friendly. The spa and swimming facilities were also very good. We will return, but that particular staff member needs to change her attitude towards customers, especially when the hotel is at fault.
We decided to try the festive afternoon tea at this restaurant and were ultimately disappointed. The sandwiches were dry and tough, and the rest of the food was bland and tasted store-bought. However, we did appreciate the beautiful hotel and the attentive and friendly servers.

The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. There was a small issue with our meal, but it was promptly resolved. The dining experience was very pleasant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be returning in the future.
