This chip shop is an absolute delight! I tried the vegetarian chip butty with chips, curry sauce, and cheese, and it was incredible. That sandwich will definitely stay on my mind for a long time. I can't wait to come back to Scotland for this! View all feedback.
What Sean Hunt doesn't like about Arrochar Fish Chips:
I wouldn't even classify this as a chip shop. The small handful of frozen chips that were served came out of the fryer barely cooked. My haggis was so undercooked that the casing was still soft and dripping with grease. I can't emphasize enough how much I would recommend avoiding this place. View all feedback.
No idea where to start. I thought I had crashed into the containment zone. the old woman began to ask me about my family when I ordered to eat! does not think she worked there when she was drinking with wine or they have great personal pause! the woman who took my order was nice, but then she asked where I stayed and how much it cost me. and then eat it. thinks it was a lot of chips and the diligent was like gips or something. will not go back.
Not the place to go if you want good quality Fish and Chips. As you walk in you will notice it's not like a regular chippy in the traditional sense as there's no pre cooked food like pies, fish, battered sausage etc in the heated glass cabinets you normally see. It's a very bizarre shop too as you notice there's another shop within the chippy itself that sells home made goods, soaps and trinkets. We asked for 2 x Fish Chips plus a carton of Mushy peas and Gravy. My wife noticed the chips were frozen, but in a confusing sort of way as if they'd been cooked once already, like chippy chips would be but then frozen and re'fried. I'll admit, I could be wrong about the re-fried thing but they were definitely cooked from frozen as we watched them tip them in the frier. The fish was ok but had some bones in and the batter was soggy. The peas and gravy were from Aldi as we watched them make the gravy from the Aldi cardboard carton. These were also handed to us in take away coffee cups with the sippy lids on. What I can say is that we did eat the fish, which tasted ok, couldn't eat the batter with how soggy it was, didn't eat any of the peas or gravy other than a quick finger dip to get the awful tasting Aldi products and ate the chips that didn't have the crispy fat soaked taste of fried bread. All in all NOT the worst I've ever had but at over £22 for the privileged of eating what must have cost £5 to make made this a place I will not be going back to, which is a real shame as the staff were absolutely lovely.
The sausage chips were delicious, and the portion size was more than adequate. There was a lovely selection of unique gifts available for purchase. The two girls who served us were friendly and very generous with their time, demonstrating full knowledge of the menu.
The restaurant was clean and well-organized. It wasn’t cheap at £18 for two portions of fried chicken, along with two soft drinks. The fish was excellent, and the chips were quite good as well, all served hot. It could have used a bit more salt and vinegar, but overall it was very nice. I would definitely recommend it.
