I had two restaurants on my list, to have lunch at courtesy of Tripadvisor, on our day trip to Arles, both establishments were closed, so we decided to have our main meal back in Avignon. Mid afternoon walking back to the train station, it started to rain heavily. To avoid getting drenched, we walked into Bar des Arenes. Hungry, as we hadn't had lunch, (not many places open and some were overpriced, or not appealing)... View all feedback.
What Marge Corkery doesn't like about Bar des Arenes:
The servants were kind but chaotic. When a dish was ready to be delivered they looked for the table that ordered that dish. When we finished our starters they asked us if we wanted a dessert, although we did not get our main dish yet. Quantity of food is good. Quality medium. Red wine was the worst I drank in Provence. Despite the region produces a lot of delicious wine. View all feedback.

What a hidden gem. The service from Danielle was excellent. Attentive without being overcrowding. The food completely exceeds expectations it was great. We have eaten out every night whilst travelling through Europe. Ten countries and this is the best meal we have enjoyed. Seriously very, very good. France at its best
Joli endroit ombragé, la terrasse est très agréable. Les salades sont copieuses et délicieuses . Service impeccable, serveuse souriante et de très bonne humeur. Un seul regret, le peu de dessert.
We had been up since 2am on an early flight to Montpellier and train to Arles so we were quite tired.Stumbled upon this cafe quite by accident- a super find. We both had very good and substantial mixed salads which we shared along with a carafe of house wine followed by espresso and Cognac. We sat for a good couple of hours enjoying the ambiance of the place. The waiter was lovely and very helpful- we needed directions to a phone shop. Highly recommend this cafe.
