A little cafe with a very good view. Home made Cakes and tea's. Good weather when we visited so sat outside and enjoyed a view over the Loch.Cake's were good.Wash rooms could do with an overhaul otherwise not to bad. View all feedback.
What RoryMorty doesn't like about Home On The Loch:
We made a pit stop during our drive from Glasgow to Oban and enjoyed a great view. However, we were disappointed by the cleanliness of the restaurant. The floors were dirty and it didn't smell great. The staff were not as friendly as we expected from Scots. We only had coffee and chose to avoid the food before leaving. View all feedback.
The ambiance of a truckers cafe! Dirty, greasy floors, and the place smells like old chip fat. They have a good coffee machine but still managed to serve the most disgusting coffee I have ever tasted. Served in a paper cup instead of the cups they had on the coffee machine. Looks like someone doesn't like doing dishes. Carrot Cake was good but the guy just put it on a serviette and dumped it on the counter, had to ask for a plate ans go in search of a fork! These people have absolutely no concept of hospitality! What a waste of such a nice location. Do yourself a favour and give it a miss!
We found a free table in the lovely garden and ordered lunch here on a very busy Sunday. The staff were run off their feet but pleasant and helpful, and we didn't mind lingering with several drinks over a rather long wait for our food. Alas, my steak, ordered medium rare, arrived overcooked to the point of shoe leather. Normally I would just have sent it back and asked for an edible replacement, however, there were queues at the bar and the order point, and no-one came to ask if everything was all right with our meal. It was easier to just grin and bear it rather than delay our lunch by another hour or so. My husband's fish was only average, and I'd say think twice before eating here unless you can see an efficient staff/customer ratio.
Warm welcome?!? There wasn 't any welcome other than one making us feel as though we were being a nuisance expecting food and drink We couldn 't understand any of the mumbling made by the female member of staff who made more hand gestures than spoken words The place was freezing cold We ordered bacon rolls which came as two slices of dry bread with the weirdest striped bacon we 've ever seen with a knob of butter on top Tea was plonked on the table in plastic cups.It was like eating in some emergency temporary community centreJust before we left at 1.15 on a Saturday!)a sign went up on the board saying 'Kitchen is closed ' The whole place should be closed Unbelievable
I hate leaving a negative review but it can't be helped. The Home on the Loch looks very cosy and welcoming from the outside and we have passed it a few times and thought we must pay a visit. Looks can be deceiving, we walked in and it looked like a road side diner, which took us a back as were expecting a cosy Wee tea room. There was a severe lack of tables and seating areas. We ordered two coffees and two bacon rolls. The coffee came in plastic takeaway cups, the rolls ended up being two slices of toasted brown bread, which was tasty but not what was advertised. If I had been asked I would have accepted there were no rolls and the bread but it would have nice to have been asked. The coffee was cold, no knife to cut very large sandwich, and no dish with sauce, sugar etc on table. The door is wide open to toilet area and the toilets themselves were filthy. It could be such a lovely Wee place with plenty of potential. I hate leaving a bad review as its someone's business and lively hood but unless something is done it won't be for much longer.
Stopped for a light bite.took our order to counter to be told they have sold out....decided on a alternative, was met with a blank stare and ignored by older waitress.needless to say we walked out. no purchase made.disgusting service and even more disgusting facilities..
