Rainey's 2 - Ards
Rainey's 2
Description
Rainey’s Fish and Chips has received mixed reviews from patrons, reflecting a turbulent experience at this once-favored establishment. While some customers express delight at the generous portions and friendly service from certain staff members, others lament the greasy food and unwelcoming atmosphere, particularly criticizing the owner’s demeanor. Concerns regarding hygiene ratings and inconsistent food quality, particularly with the frying, are prevalent. Despite these issues, a few patrons remain hopeful for improvement, praising individual staff members and the restaurant's iconic pasties. Overall, Rainey’s seems to be at a crossroads, caught between charm and unfortunate missteps.

Stopped here on way home from beach for dinner...... defo will not be back. I understand there's a cosy of living crisis.... no prices on menu board only some items listed with a price, I ordered chicken goujons at £4.50 assumed it came with a dip as all chippy offer one with goujons, told had to buy dip separate. Girl at counter then asked me did I want salt and vinegar on my 4 goujons, came away to drive home towards comber to only find 3 chicken goujons, phoned the chippy to query how many should there be and girl came off with sometimes 4 but depends on the size or othertimes 3. You can buy 2 chicken fillets in tecsco for £2.90 and get about 8 goujons out of them.
Fantastic experience!! I ordered online for pickup through their Facebook page. The food was cooked perfectly and the service was excellent. Highly recommend!
I really wanted a snack box, while my partner had a burger. Unfortunately, the snack box was overcooked, except for the chips. The burger seemed decent, but the chips were soggy. I managed to eat as much as I could, even though the batter was tough. Despite that, the food was still tasty.
It’s food for drunks grim. Honestly it’s a greasy spoon. £13 for a seniors cod chips and a portion of French fried onions. The piece of cod was generous and fresh a beautiful piece of fish ruined by couldn’t care less owners. The fish batter was soggy within a few minutes. The chips too were an ungenerous portion, greasy and unpleasant. Here too nothing wrong with the potatoes but again badly cooked. The smell of grease hangs in the air and fills the nostrils. The French fried onion batter was solid not light nor crispy. Really if you are nearby don’t stop. The welcome isn’t friendly. There aren’t any prices on display and they only take cash. I didn’t know on entry and was told the fish chips were £7 but I had to go to the car for cash and on return 5 minutes later it was £10, the French fried onions were £3.
In our continued adventures to find good fish and chips we ventured down to Donaghadee. Cod, fish and onion rings were £14.40 which represented decent value in today's prices. The cod was a good chunky portion very well cooked and the chips and onion rings also were well cooked. All in all it was like going back in time to the way it used to be......fish and chips just done right and a bit of pride in the product. We will return. Give it a go.
