A little piece of heaven on earth. My wife and I spent 5 days here in Pantanal. Lucas was a gracious host, and the range of visitors from scientists to fishermen enthusiasts made good company. The food was some of the best we had in Brazil, and I'm glad we took the time to see the Pantanal. From riding, canoeing and our favorite wildlife spotting, Fazenda Barranco Alto was an amazing experience. View all feedback.
During a few weeks an art project in RecifeI supports I decided to visit the opportunity a few other spots in Brazil to make the trip even more memorable And oh boy, I have the right place to get an idea of the beautiful nature of Mato Grosso do Sul, the wildlife and a feeling of spending days on the back of a horse! I felt right on the spot from the first moment I arrived. The accommodation was magnificent (beautiful view of the lake from my private terrace and the provision, I was aware that, due to the fact that in such a remote place, all meals were included during the day, but never would I have expected meals that were more 5 star cuisine than something served in the wild! Not to mention the best Caipirinha I had in all of Brazil and the excellent fresh lemonade when I had the need to cool and cool. All tours were well selected and unique, although I must admit that I was already well served to spend my days on a horse day in and day out: There was still time for a beautiful sunrise picnic while cute otters floated along the many fish, as well as tours in kayak, boat and jeep. I don't want to fry, but of course I saw a Jaguar in his natural habitat along other more rare and beautiful species! Loved the spontaneous grill in this magnificent place where Jorge Swiss has observed and documented the life of the Otters of Pantanal for more than a decade. Great thanks to Camilla, her staff, the leaders and the cowboys, you made my stay an explosion.
My wife and I spent five wonderful days here in May 2014. the website and the blog do not overwrite the experience. the accommodations were first advice and eating all traditional tariff, house cooked (on a wood stove! would be ashamed of most restaurants. from the moment we arrived until we were gone, we were treated to new and amazing sights of birds and animals and plants that we had never seen. Eight hours of personally guided animal world, which discovered every day, filled our efforts to experience everything in a short time. the unexpected bonus was the pleasant company of the four leaders and the various guests from all over the world especially from Europe in our case we are American. English was the main language, but everyone seems to be multilingual. in any case one of our top horses of all time.
Rarely I enjoyed staying in a place as much as I enjoyed visiting and staying in Corinnes and Ben's Lodge Fazenda in the middle of Pantanal, where no roads get in or out. Either you threw a pilot or, as we did, hire an experienced 4x4 driver to get you there. 40 kilometers through a mix of arable land and flooded wilderness in Whic drive on two dirt tracks, but often you need to find your own route due to massive floods in the summer. It took three hours to drive the 40 km through the rough terrain, but it was exciting and you get to see a lot of animal on the way. In and out, we had the pleasure to see the Giant Ant Eater, Armadillo, Pampas Deer, Blue Macows, Vultures, Emas, Caimans and many, many different types of other birds. Arrive in the lodge, we have a warm and friendly welcome from the owners who waited for us with a delicious and well appreciated lunch. With a full Brazilian style lunch and dinner every night, accompanied by the owners and the other guest, is part of the package and makes you feel like visiting old friends. You can quickly find the conversation about all the experiences throughout the day and Ben, Corrinne and Carol (one of the guides are all very well known about the wildlife out there and look forward to sharing this knowledge. Every morning they will arrange a tour for you, from boat trips or canoe on the river, riding on the land, fishing, hiking or even jeep safari, you should not be enough of it during the afternoon safari. All with the aim of observing wildlife as the main purpose. Most of the wildlife is basically about you at the lodge (like the Blue Macows, Capivaras, Emas and Caimans), but some of them are better spotted during the tours like the many birds (Red Aras, Yellow Aras, Toucans, King Fishers etc., the Giant Ant Eaters, Coatis, Giant Otters, Tapirs or Jaguar. We saw everything, even though what we saw from the Jaguar, only his footprints and the legend of a spirit was a witness of his presence on the farm! My wife and I loved being there and hating that we had to go at the end of our vacation. Of course, if you go, they are all there to say goodbye and give you a hug to give Brazilian style so you can say goodbye to old friends.
