My husband I took this past holiday weekend to visit this Burg Trifles. Upon coming back down the restaurant of Barbarossa was open for lunch. Not only greeted warmly they had a second menu in English. Food was fantastic and portion size more than ample we could have split a meal. Great Steak, with garlic and butter sautéed onions perfectly cooked . My husbands Snitzel in Rum mushroom gravy sauce was perfectly cooked... View all feedback.
What George S doesn't like about Barbarossa:
The restaurant below the castle Trifels is located on the large parking lot, being on the terrace, you are looking at lots of cars. Not the best location. Typical German fare but nothing special. View all feedback.
A few coworkers and I decided to take a break from work and visit the Trifels castle. After parking and taking a long walk up the mountainside to visit the castle, we worked up an appetite. Once we made it back to the restaurant, I ordered a weisbier and jagerschnitzel. The best schnitzel I've had in Germany the past 2 weeks! It was quite a surprise! And, the fries tastes like they were from McDonald's.
When you come to visit the castle Trifels, you will have to pay € 1,50 for parking. The parking ticket is a voucher for the restaurant in the same amount. Therefore after coming back from the castle, we visited the restaurant for a cake. The cake (Bienenstich) was big and good but not too sweet. Coffee and tea were good as well, waiters polite and quick. The location itself was spacey although they only opened half of their rooms. One wall was covered in a rebuilt of Castle Trifels which was nice to look at. However as we sat directly nxt to it we saw thatit was covvered in dust and spiderwebs at some parts. Anyhow I give this venue a 3 star rating because it was nothing special for me. We did not have any problems but also it wasn't overwhelming. Price examples: Cappuchino: 2,80€ Tea: 2,00 € Cake: 2,50 €

We had lunch here due to it's location. We were in town to see the castle and have a little fun at the festival. This restaurant served typical German fare at typical German prices. The kids enjoyed the usual schnitzel, bratwurst, fries, and cokes. I was a bit more adventurous and ate my lunch with a great view of the castle out the window. We were actually the only ones to eat inside while the beer garden was packed with eaters. The desserts looked good but our lunch portions were large enough to leave no room for sweets. No one spoke English but the service was fast and friendly. If you are in town to see the sights, this is a good place to cool your heels and relax.
