The restaurant itself looks very nice, very modern. The food although was very poor quality and way too expensive for what we got served. We had starters which were okay (Portuguese sausage and breaded squid) but you could tell that it wasn 't very fresh. The main course (octopus) was way too overcooked and you could tell it wasn 't fresh but more like reheated style.... the service was pretty poor too, the waiter brought white wine instead red (as we actually requested) and didn 't offer to exchange it (as it was his fault or misunderstanding) but waited until we said it was okay we 'd drink the white wine... all in one, we dont want to be very negative on this but we were just very disappointed, a restaurant looking that nice and describing itself as gourmet, its just not accurate.... it was more cafeteria than gourmet or anything... maybe changing manager would be helpful or simply bring more passion in the whole concept and kitchen. Anyway, thank you for having us!
Three restaurants in one one for salads, one for fish, and one for gourmet dining. As my wife doesn 't eat fish, we settled for the gourmet experience. Our verdict is OK, without being anything special. My octopus tartlets starter was disappointing, but my steak was cooked to perfection. My wife had brochettes, followed by confit of duck. The latter seemed to have been heated up several times rather than the twice that the dish demands and was very disappointing. I suggest the restaurant should find a more appropriate name than gourmet. We were staying for three nights at the Atlántida Mar Hotel across the road and needed three dinners in the area (the hotel doesn 't have a restaurant). There are two restaurants within walking distance of the hotel R3 and La Barca. We tried La Barca on the first evening and R3 on the second. The fact that returned to La Barca for our third dinner tells its own story.
One of our best meals. Grilled octopus, lovely soup and good service. Our guide brought us here. Exceptionally clean and quite modern for the Azores.
This building definitely stands out amongst the rest of the architecture. One side you get a view of the cattle grazing and farming, on the other, a view of the ocean. This restaurant serves delicious, light seafood fare and beef dishes. It has a modern, hip feeling and could be a nice way to have a different dining experience from the more traditional restaurants on the island.
