We couldn't figure out how to make reservations (our Italian isn't that good) so we showed up about 30 minutes after Matas54 opened. We were told they could squeeze us in but only had 90 minutes before someone with a reservation had the table. Ninety minutes is plenty of time for an American to eat so I thought. Oh my gosh. The pizza was some of the best I've ever eaten. The crust was the right amount of char and bubbles. It had great taste on its own (no toppings needed). This wasn't a pizza you just ate, it was a pizza you savored. What I liked about Matas54 over other pizzerias was the creative side to their menu. Look it up. The staff was the best. Everyone was hustling to get the food out. They were extremely attentive. This isn't something I normally experience in Italy. Our waitress spoke very good English. The only critique I have is on myself for not figuring out how to make a reservation so that I could have had more time at the restaurant.
