Great food and hot chocolates! Excellent friendly service especially as it was busy with all the tables taken. Great spot for people watching and views of the canals. View all feedback.
What Hailey Boogaerts doesn't like about Cafe Tabac B.v. Amsterdam:
The Dim Sum here is fantastic and has been for years. It’s got a great low key mixed (ages, straight, gay etc) vibe, the music (when I’ve been) is retro classics. At least two barmen I’ve encountered are fine, but there’s a waitress who is stone cold rude. Not Dutch bluntness, just cold and rude and downright aggressive, banging glasses on your table without a ‘here you go’. Never smiles, her opener ‘what do you want... View all feedback.
Okay, so I might be a little biased since I work across the street from this gem. But, I 'll write this up anyway. This place rules. If a foreigner were to ask me what I thought gezellig bars were like, I 'd say nothing and just lead them here. It 's so cozy, dark, lively and perfect. It 's a place you can come to for 3 hours of easy conversation, slow drink drinking, a few snacks and let the city just stumble around outside the warm doors. Seriously, I love it here.
Finding ourselves overseas and out of our comfort zones not knowing which bars we would be comfortable in.. we stumbled across this bar and it was easily a highlight and standout. I 'm always a fan of dive bars or the more unassuming, low-key spots and this definitely fit the bill. It 's very nice inside but also relaxed, welcoming and open. The bartender (a male, can 't recall his name) was incredibly nice and even offered us a free round of shots for tipping (we 're american), so that just made us love this place even more. My favorite part of the bar is the outside elevated seating area where you climb a small ladder and can sit while sipping your drinks.. it 's not exceptionally wow-worthy but it 's a cool detail and makes for a fun chill spot. I will say the stairs leading down to the bar bathrooms are a little steep and best used before too many drinks are consumed. This is just the kind of bar where everything clicks and comes together and one of the spots I will remember from my time in Amsterdam. I 've already recommended Tabac to my fellow friends in the states for their visit.
Our favorite bar in Amsterdam! Everything is right about this little gem. Can't wait to go back.
