So I walked over there: it's gone. No sign of it, even difficult to recognize which building it used to be in. Alas.

After over 23 years of travelling and living in Amsterdam and having stayed and eaten in some of the finest hotels and restaurants I found ANNA for the first ti... read more After over 23 years of travelling and living in Amsterdam and having stayed and eaten in some of the finest hotels and restaurants I found ANNA for the first time this week just by pure chance of waking past and wanting to know what this place was and thought I would give it a go. It is literally a 30 second walk from Dam Square and the Krasnopolski Hotel. For me this has been one of the finest dinning experiences of my life, I have eaten in The Ritz and Savoy, London to the Landmark and Hilton Horizon Restaurants in Thailand, but this one is above all of them. The place has been designed in a very modern new and contemporary look and feel and keeping up with how modern places now look that had to be experienced to be believed. Staff on arrival are warm and welcoming and a nice Hello from the Head Chef as I walked past his domaine added to the experience. Staff looked happy and energetic in their work which to me indicates great leadership from the management. For a restaurant to have it kitchen on display and in full view of the customer is a masterstroke and a decision that adds to the ambiance of the venue. I had a salmon starter followed by a steak main coarse that was absolutely divine in presentation and taste. You would have to order it to understand! The atmosphere was calm and pleasant as the clientele seemed to be consisted of well dressed and professional type. No over loud music and the lighting was perfect with views both to the front of the building and at the bottom on the church and cobbled streets behind. With 5 beers and an Irish Coffee which generally seem never be copied out of UK restaurants was delivered looking and tasting to absolute perfection. The only time in Europe I have had one this good. The price Euros 59. No service charge and all taxes built into the price so no add -ons at the end. The experience lasted 90 minuets which for me is how I want it to be. I didn't feel rushed and food delivery was perfect in timing. Big tables with loads of room really did make a difference. For me this has been the best dinning experience of the last 35 years and one I hope to have again on my next visit. 100 out of 100 without doubts. A Masterpiece !
