What Rodolfo Rolfson doesn't like about Berggasthof Hornboden:
Typical mountain type cafeteria food. Slightly overpriced but you're paying for the location when skiing. Great sized hut means you're likely to find a table even in the school holidays. View all feedback.
Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful place in the middle of the ski area. large outdoor area. Service keys. we ordered pizza and they were absolutely fantastic probably one of the best I had eaten in my life.
We have eaten up in the restaurant (waiter service) that is excellent. we ate down in the self-service restaurant, which is also excellent. but our child lover was the pizza. made to order and cook in a pizza oven before them. Economic, big and tasty. recommend this for a lunch stop while skiing or a coffee/hot-choir for apres ski. a pizza 7,5 9.5 euro depending on toppings. we had three between 5 and didn't make it. with drinks we ate for 5 of us under 40 euro.

The Gasthof Hornboden is one of the places to eat on the slopes at the Alpbach ski resort. It's located at one of the main junctions of the slopes, hence it is absolutely enormous and gets packed every day (many of the ski schools use it as a place to take people for lunch.) The food is served in the style of a big motorway service station where you queue up at each station, depending on what it is you'd like. There's a huge seating area - however, even with all the seats available it stills gets very busy and it can be impossible to get a seat inside during high season. However, having said all that, the key question is what is the food like. I ordered the lasagne and it was very dry. Plus the bottom two pasta sheets hadn't been cooked properly, which made it both dry and tough. I was going to order the wurst mit pommes, but then I saw that they deep-fry their wurst rather than steam or boil them - yuk!All around the place, you see plates of half-eaten food that people have left behind, so I would say that I'm certainly not alone in my view of their food.
