That time of morning after you have driven here and before you start looking around the shops. Yes it’s coffee and Brandy time although if you wanted anything to eat there was quite a lot on offer. The waitress was friendly and helped us order. The coffee was excellent we both had decaf (freshly ground why can’t you get the same at home even the smallest bar has 2 coffee bean grinders next to the coffee machine), and the single Brandy was a very large measure very good at just 4 euro 20. The cafeteria is located on the main road through town opposite the Santander bank. Give it a try excellent product and value for money.

Simple coffee and snack stop off near the market and very much a locals place, although we were completely welcome. Bustling and rustic with inside and outside tables, you’ll need basic Spanish to navigate the simple menu which is spoken by staff rather than written down roscas, bocadillos, basic tapas and variety of coffees. Bottled beer also available. Four nice coffees, bottle of water and one tasty cheese and tomato bocadillo came in at the unbeatable total of €8.80. Decent toilets and kids welcome. The ideal cheap refuel spot if you have a spot of Spanish at your disposal.

This bar is in a working section of Almunecar, nowhere near the beach and outside of the Old Town, with apartments and small shops nearby so it attracts mostly locals rather than tourists. We have been here 3 or 4 times and every time they have served us a rosca as a tapas. Roscas are round ring sandwiches about the size of a bagel only with different dough, filled with ham and cheese in our case but many other fillings. Always warm and good it is a nice accompaniment to their reasonably priced drinks. Worth a stop if you are in the area.

We were the only tourist for late afternoon tapas Everyone else were local townspeople. Fine place. Honest working class, animated. Great tapas (free of course), fine local wine, inexpensive, friendly service. Just the sort of place you hope to find. Bravo folks!! Muy simpatico! Wifi free too

Fantastic place to sit and feel local atmosphere. There is no better place to sit after long day, drink a beer or tinto de Verano, enjoy tapas and local people talking in the background. Must see instead of some fancy place.
