What Travis K doesn't like about Big G's Bbq:
The restaurant serves traditional Southern cuisine, and I opted for the chopped meat and hash dinner that was accompanied by rice and two side dishes. Overall, I found the meal quite enjoyable. This restaurant is an incredible hidden gem in Allendale. The owners have clearly invested a lot of thought into the decor, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere the moment you step inside. I visited specifically for the barbecue, and it completely surpassed my expectations! The smoky pork was exceptional, complemented by a unique golden mustard-based sauce that I had never experienced before. Making a good hash is challenging, but Big G’s has truly mastered it—it's rich and satisfying! To make it even better, you can enjoy two sides, a drink, and banana pudding for just $10! That’s an amazing deal! Every cent is worth it, and I would gladly drive 52 miles just to eat here again. No kidding!
This restaurant is a charming and relaxed spot to enjoy a meal—I absolutely love eating here. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the food is exceptional.
The buffet offered pulled pork, fried chicken, and a variety of side dishes including macaroni and cheese, red rice with smoked sausage, butter beans with rice, and hash. Unfortunately, the pulled pork lacked freshness and could have used some mustard sauce for added flavor. In contrast, the fried chicken was quite delicious, and I particularly liked the red rice with smoked sausage. At $10 for an all-you-can-eat option, it was certainly a fantastic value.
The restaurant offers classic Southern dishes, and I chose the chopped meat and hash dinner, which came with rice and two sides. Overall, I really enjoyed the meal. The chopped BBQ and banana pudding were particularly impressive. However, the cornbread was somewhat average and on the dry side. Unfortunately, the macaroni and cheese didn’t live up to the expectations of the other four people at my table who ordered it as well. On the whole, the service was outstanding! I would give my experience a rating of 3.5 out of 5.
On a positive note, their homemade barbecue sauce and lemonade are truly exceptional. If only someone could share the recipes for those beverages and sauces; it would be wonderful to see this establishment shut down for good.
