Chicken Shack Motel - Algoma

Looks like you're fooling! the rooms are pretty clean. very poor wifi. bathroom outdated and shed. bed. good customer service.

We were in a bit of a pinch and needed a room. We were stopped next door to the Chicken Shack where they have gas, washrooms, and a variety of shops (and the friendliest of staff!). They recommended us to go to the Chicken Shack. Basically, it's a 5 room motel with a chip truck. They also have an older camper parked out back they rent too. The owners boasted that the rooms were renovated, but the bathrooms were out of the 70s. Pink. There was no hydro outlets in the bathroom. The wifi they offer didn't quite have a strong enough signal; it kept cutting out on us. Despite that, it was the room we needed for the night. Nothing fancy, but it did the trick... easy supper :)

We stopped here for a night. It was very clean and the owners were very nice and friendly. The rate for the night was great. We ordered the chicken for dinner and it was brought right to our room. Tasted wonderful. The only thing not so great is that it was so hot and humid out and there is no air conditioning. They do provide a nice big fan which helped a lot and it did cool down overnight because you are near the lake. They are about a ten minute walk from the beach which is a little awkward to get to. You have to walk across the highway and down a path to get there. The beach is nice and secluded when you get there. Can't wait to go back for another stay.

Only decaf coffee!!!! That overshadowed all that was good about it.... good service... clean... nice well kept establishment..... but come on.... people want caffeine.... and shampoo bottle was half used up.

I want to give this a 3.5. Definitely above average but I had a couple small issues. Convenient location, easy to find, reasonable price. Very cute & well kept. They only have decaf coffee in the rooms, which was fine for me but might not be so great for people who like to wake up to real coffee. Tasty, locally roasted coffee at least! The coffee pot definitely hadn't been properly cleaned in a while though. No continental breakfast, the Chicken Shack restaurant doesn't open till 11am either. The bed was so firm, I had the worse sleep of the whole trip but my partner slept like a rock so hard to judge. Wifi wasn't working when we got in but we were so tired we didn't really try, and it worked in the morning but was spotty and disconnecting. Nothing too fancy but if you're in the area it is definitely worth the stay.
