What a meal! We had the suckling pig and the lobster and it was one of the best meals we had in Alghero, maybe on our whole three week trip in Italy. Tucked away in the charming streets of Alghero, Sa Mesa offers a taste of local Sardinian cuisine with professional service and a relaxed ambiance. Our dinner was enjoyable, though it didn't quite reach the heights we’d hoped for. We began with the local squid ink pasta, a classic starter that delivered familiar seafood and tomato notes. It was well-prepared and satisfying, though not particularly memorable. For the main course, I had the spigola al forno—oven-baked sea bass served with potatoes and tomatoes. The fish itself was tender and well-cooked, but unfortunately the dish was let down by the quality of the oil used. Whether reused or simply subpar, it dulled the freshness of the ingredients and left a noticeable aftertaste. That said, the service stood out as a strong point: prompt, courteous, and attentive without being intrusive. All in all, Sa Mesa is a solid choice for a casual dinner, especially if you're looking for speedy, polite service and traditional flavors. Just don’t expect fireworks.
