The food quality varied, with some dishes being overly salty or having an off taste. Despite these issues, there were some highlights, such as the delicious wiener schnitzel and the flavorful squash soup. The extensive beer menu and friendly server were also appreciated. The restaurant has a cozy feel with LOTR-themed decor, making it a fun spot for a casual meal. While there were some shortcomings, Bilbo Baggins still offers a decent dining experience in the heart of Old Town.
Beyond my expectations!!! I haven't been in years and now I can't wait to go back. A co-worker was in MD for a business trip from Ohio and I wanted to let her see a little bit of our neck of the woods so I decided that Old Towne was a great destination. When deciding where to eat Bilbo Baggins came to mind and the menu offered a variety. As it turns out the three of us had lamb chops. They were flavorful and cooked perfect. The portions were very generous and included three meaty lamb chops, butternut squash, mashed and asparagus. If in Old Towne Alexandria make a visit to this awesome restaurant and you'd be glad you did!!!!
Excellent brunch location. Best bacon in town! Service is great and family-friendly ambiance.
After eating lunch and visiting a museum, we strolled around Old Town enjoying the buildings when the sign for Bilbo Baggins smacked me in the face. As a big LOTR fan, I couldn't say no and dragged my group to just enjoy a drink at the bar and being somewhere called Bilbo Baggins. We had already eaten so we didn't order food (but the menu is chock full of references to the Tolkien series, as are there a bunch of specialty drinks). I went with Galadriel's Sangria, the White. I love that it was more focused on apricot and apple flavors, which was great for the end of summer time we were stopping in. The bartender wasn't super attentive, but it's alright, no foul done, we simply enjoyed the AC for a bit longer and allowed me to nerd out and giggle over the related decor.
For your inner Baggins... or Gandalf... or whomever you may relate to... this is a nice little pub with decent food that pays homage to the Lord of the Rings saga. Food: I ordered a Rohan Mule, which I was hoping would be delightful... but I was a little saddened by the lack of typical mule mug you get with it. That aside it was a little strong but was enjoyable. The meal ordered was the rack of lamb. As you can see from my pic, it had a lovely presentation and the taste was pretty good too. The best part was the sauce that accompanied the potatoes. Establishment and staff: the bar was moderately busy, and the decor was cool. Not too much lord of the ring decor which was a little sad but oh well. The table we were seated at rocked a lot, so some things possibly need some repair as well. The staff was nice, albeit a little hard to understand, and wasn 't the most reliable when it came to help with the menu. Overall I 'd do it again to try more of the titular menu items.
My family and I went here for brunch and we 're here when Bilbo Baggins first opened for the day. They didn 't seem very with-it and weren 't exactly the most accommodating. We were guests here in Alexandria and had our uncle with us (total of 5 people) so it shouldn 't have been too difficult. Although the customer service wasn 't the best, the food made up for it. I ordered the Smaug 's Delight, because well, I just had to. It 's a portabella mushroom cap topped with warm Brie cheese and encrusted with panko breadcrumbs, served with scrambled eggs and creole potatoes. It was SOO good! The mushroom and Brie cheese was so creamy and rich, I was glad there was only one...because I would have kept eating. The Frodo 's French Toast was rich and delicious! I had to try a bite. Everyone loved their food, but I 'm a stickler for customer service. I hope they were just tired and this isn 't a common occurrence.
