Charming establishment. I stayed for two nights, and the rooms were comfortable and spotlessly clean. The only downside was the lack of drawer space for my belongings. The breakfast was delightful, especially since it was cooked to order, avoiding the issue of lukewarm food under heat lamps. Overall, I would rate the rooms a 4, the service a 4, and the location a perfect 5. View all feedback.
What Mike Whelan doesn't like about Duck Bay:
We had a 4-5 hour drive in stormy weather, and we wanted to change our reservation dates. We provided more than 48 hours' notice, but the hotel refused to accommodate us. It was disappointing because the place looks lovely, but according to their terms and conditions, we ended up losing £200. I won't make that mistake again. We really enjoyed this restaurant, one of the most beautiful spots in Loch Lomond. Although the separate vegan menu was no longer available (we had visited during COVID), there were several vegan options clearly marked on the main menu. We started with a delicious tomato salad and opted for a shepherd’s pie made with lentils for our main course. Both dishes were excellent, but we were truly amazed by the chocolate caramel brownie dessert — it was absolutely delicious!
We stopped by while traveling and were looking for a quick bite, so we headed to the café section of Duck Bay. Unfortunately, there were no vegan options on the menu, but they were able to make vegan cheese and tomato sandwiches upon request. They were quite good! They mentioned that they sometimes have vegan cakes, but unfortunately, they weren't available the day we visited.
The restaurant offers a lovely separate vegan menu featuring dishes like mac and cheese, vegan lasagna, and mushroom stroganoff prepared according to a local recipe, among others. We tried the mac and cheese and the stroganoff, both of which were excellent (just needed a bit more salt). Overall, we had a fantastic experience, and the prices are reasonable.
