We had f... read more Slightly out of the way venue with another restaurant next door. Nice outdoor space as well as inside. Due to the temperature we decided to sit inside. We had fancied something “Portuguese” and I had seen that a “Cataplana” looked similar in the images I had seen to a paella. There was a meat cataplana on the menu so that was for us so when the waiter came up we ordered calamari, garlic bread and the Cataplana (without asking any questions) Appetisers we’re great along with the starters. The cataplana came up in a bit lidded wok like pan and on opening it I realised my mistake. Basically a cataplana base is mussels and clams and a meat cataplana has meat added. While not allergic to shellfish I do avoid eating it. The waiter was horrified that he hadn’t asked if we knew what was in it and offered to cook us something else. But we agreed to stay with why we had and just avoid the shellfish. In the end all was fine, food tasted lovely and apart from my partner not enjoying looking at the crab tank, I would go back. The big skewers looked great!

Don’t know why she was doing this so after the meal I spoke to the owner , explained the situation and he said he had oysters and dressed crab available I know what I would do with this waitress but that’s up to the owner , all I can say if you do go don’t deal with her and order.via the owner ,the sea food is excellent, if you can get it !

It was very early so the place was pretty empty which would be a bonus because we’d get great service (or so we thought). The young lady that seated us then served us had very well placed intentions but forgetful and not very attentive. Both previous times it has been an older gentleman. Having been seated we waited a long time to order drinks, the drinks took ages to arrive and we think the language barrier was too much for the young lady. My mother in law can’t eat seafood so we asked if there was any seafood in the meat Cataplana, the answer was no. We ordered on seafood and one meat Cataplana but when they arrived both had seafood in. The table was ill prepared for Cataplana, we had to use my daughters soup bowl for all the shells. The meals should have come with bread as told by the young lady but this never came (we didn’t need it but would have been nice to have with the sauce). I asked for extra napkins several time but these didn’t materialise and we all had to use the toilets to wash our hands and it is a very hands on meal. It wasn’t the most expensive meal we’ve had this holiday but it was a sentimental one very disappointing. The food was good but the service really let it down. Has the restaurant changed hands since last July? We left a small tip but really it is only principles that made me leave a tip.
