We have been in sourh of France for a week and eat at least once a day in a restaurant. We look for local cuisine at a reasonable price. This is definitely one of those gems. We had snails, duck and desert. Every dish was perfect and scumptious. The Galliac white wine was also not too expensive. View all feedback.
We chose this restaurant as it was serving chicken. We had enough of duck and cassoulet on the past few nights on our travels. The restaurant is situated just over from the old bridge over the river and on a quiet street. We chose to sit outside and most tables there were full.I got the feeling that the waiter was the sort of chap that knew what you wanted and was always willing to steer you towards a dish of his choice. But we stuck to our guns and chicken it was going to be. We let him choose our starter which was fine with nice bread. He didn't speak any English and therefore it took some time to sort out the menu. After when he was serving near you he would come out with the odd English word which he thought was relevant. All good fun!! It seemed there were mainly French guests at the restaurant. Perhaps not many British tourists reached that part of town in the evening. The chicken was delicious thankfully, followed by a local dessert recommended by the waiter!! He always seemed to be on the go rushing back and forth, forgetting things, being sidetracked with orders / servings / payments etc. I felt sorry for him in a way, working all on his own. He could have done with some help. It was also a little way to walk back into the main building for everything. Things were a little slow and you had to remind him about orders, but it was all done in good humour. A bit of Basil Fawlty without the insults if you know what I mean. Whilst I enjoyed the cabaret, my wife looking in the other direction had a good view of the old bridge. All in all it was an enjoyable night. if you were in a different frame of mind it could have been quite annoying. A lovely meal though and good value.
Theres so many eateries at Albi the choice can be mind bending, but I found La Numudie a good sound bet for traditional French cuisine. It is located at the cathedral side of the river, at the end of the old bridge. Its not your pretentious, chrome shining lights establishment, its one I believe offers good quality food at a reasonable price with a view of the old bridge and La Madeleine district thrown in.On the 15.90 euro menu I chose the salade de gesiers to start, followed by the ail de raie aux capres sauce citronne with nougat glace avec son coulis de fruit rouge for dessert.50cl of wine @ 5.50 euros, complimentary olives and free sangria aperitif with the Albi pass.Whats more, its all cooked well, incredible value!
Recently in Albi, we came across this restaurant. Delicious fresh food, and they even adapted dishes to make them suitable for dietary requirements.
We discovered this small restaurant on our last evening in Albi. It is away from the main part where thr Tarn river crosses The Pont Vieux. The food was excellent. The best gesiers salad we have had. Wonderful fish (noix st Jacques) Reasonable price 50 to 60 euros for two including wine. Worth seeking out.
This small restaurant has three lunch menus - 15, 19 and 23 euros. We happily chose the 15 euro 3-course menu that has a choice of three dishes per course. Because this restaurant is off the beaten track for most tourists, it wasn't crowded and the food is good, old-fashioned French cooking. The staff are friendly and helpful. The final bill was 55 euros for food and drinks which was perfect for our Sunday. Afterwards we walked down to the Tarn to look at the enormous catfish and trout in the shallows of the river.
