Food was very good and the prices were so reasonable. I had blackened white fish, blue cheese coleslaw, red beans and rice. Husband had fried chicken, collard greens and yams. Our bartender, Candy was very good and our waitress Aretha was very sweet. View all feedback.
What Tim Tate doesn't like about Marques Resturant:
I've been looking for some gizzards everywhere, and someone recommended me a restaurant named Marquis. I got gizzards from there that was seasoned well but they weren't made to order, they looked and tasted like they were prepared way before I came. My friend got chicken gumbo and it tasted like smokey, beef and no seasoning, it was supposed to be chicken and sausage gumbo, but it wasn't any sausage in it. I threw aw... View all feedback.
During a recent trip to Akron, I had my first Marques experience. On the website, they bill their cuisine as Southern, Cajun, and Creole Fusion . What I can say is that I was impressed with the food. The menu includes fried okra, gumbo, fried chicken gizzards and livers, jambalaya, fried chicken, collard greens, candied yams and chicken and waffles, to name a few items. I had the fried chicken with collard greens, candied yams and corn bread. Another person in the group had shrimp and grits (I was recently told the shrimp and grits is a popular low country dish from the Carolinas and Georgia). At least one person had chicken and waffles. Usually the cornbread, collard greens and yams are NOT done well in restaurants. I have never had those at a restaurant that came close to having them at home or with family. Marques NAILED ALL THREE. Additionally, restaurant fried chicken is usually cooked in a deep fryer. Pan-fried chicken is so much better. Marques must pan fry his chicken because it was very close to the way my mother and grandmother made it. The people in the group who had chicken and waffles or shrimp and grits or macaroni and cheese say they were impressed too. Just as important is the food was reasonably priced and the atmosphere is modern which I like. The server and the chef were friendly and attentive. All and all, this is a great place if you are looking for American southern food or 'soul food '. P.S. Thank you for mailing my hat back to me in Massachusetts. It is one of my favorites.

I am visiting from NC and I had to try this place. The gumbo, Jambalaya, and fried chicken is to die for. Best food I have had in a while. Its was my 2nd day there and I will be back tomorrow (for a 3rd) for more. Thank you for your wonderful food. No need for pictures. The food speaks for itself.
Nice atmosphere server was nice and attentive, ordered the two piece white chicken with the two sides mac cheese an sweet potatoes and wanted to try the red beans rice and greens so added those to my order. The chicken was fried perfectly crispy on outside with flavorful skin and juicy on the inside. Sides were good, I didn?t care for the greens though didn?t seem like they were cooked with the neck bone, ham hock, salt pork so they weren?t very favorable. But all in all great place will return and bring friends to check em out!
Nice atmosphere, the food is really good they have vegetarian and vegan options. Reservation encouraged.!!
