They took us to the port... read more After a weekend in Hastings on rice lake we were promised a fabulous meal at our friends local restaurant and we were not disappointed. They took us to the portly piper and we loved it, great food and drink in a family friendly atmosphere. Would recommend to everyone but don't take my advice just visit and I promise you will return.

Once seated the another server had the regular menus and a kids menu with crayons waiting for us. We started with some apps - Tortilla flutes and bruschetta with feta. They were fantastic and had great presentation when served. the other orders were wings, shrimp pad thai, salmon and mac and cheese for the little one. All of which were excellent. In my opinion...the best bar food in Durham.

Started off with their drink menu, ended up getting a Daiquiri and Margarita which were great. My girlfriends and I opted to get some apps because they happened to have some half price. We ordered the nacho's, spinach and artichoke dip, and the sticky thai chicken tenders and chips. We were all very pleased with our food and we were very full. The service was great by our waitress. It is loud inside when it is packed with people, so if you're looking for some place quiet I wouldn't recommend. But overall great atmosphere, food and service definitely will be back.

Food is... read more I have been going to The Portly for the last 5 years and have always had great food and great service. We've even tried the Oshawa pub and it's as good. Food is way above the average restaurant in Ajax and the servers are always friendly. You can expect a wait anytime of the week with a winning combination like that. But what you can also expect is to have employees bump ahead of you to be seating making your wait even longer. Not too impressed with that side of "service".

To start, we ordered our usual: two cokes and the Crispy Calamari. The calamari was exceptionally delectable, easily becoming my favorite among fast-food establishments. The accompanying dip was a perfect match.For our mains, my partner had the Grand Slam Burger, while I enjoyed the Braised Beef Wild Mushroom Risotto. Both dishes were delicious, with ample portions that left me with leftovers.Overall, we had a pleasant meal, though the service did experience occasional slowdowns due to the busy evening. To avoid any lulls, I'd recommend visiting during quieter times, especially when there aren't any sports events taking place. On our visit, the Jays played and won – Go Jays Go!

The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is that it has a nice atmosphere at night.

We ordered the crab cakes, crispy calamari, and crispy Thai chicken fingers along with lattice fries, and everything was fantastic. We also appreciated that our food arrived promptly. Additionally, I didn't appreciate that the staff added lemon pepper seasoning after the wings were cooked, as it made them taste overly salty. Given the high prices, I expect the food to be exceptional. Moreover, the music was too loud, making it difficult to hold a conversation. They should consider selecting better music.

She sighed under her breath and rolled her eyes, making it clear that our request was an inconvenience. The service felt a bit overwhelmed; it seemed like she would rather be anywhere else. The food was decent, but not outstanding. It usually hits a certain mark, but this time it felt like it had declined a bit.

The steak was very dry and the lobster was over cooked. A bit disappointed.
