Since my brother lives in the area and my mom lives in Lugano and I live on the Lago Maggiore, we decided to meet in Agno for a family lunch. At first I wasn't too keen cause the restaurant looks a bit outdated but I must say that I enjoyed it and also enjoyed the food. The meat was great and the pizza was really good. When in the area I will surely dine there again, maybe for dinner so I can then drink some wine.
This must have been the 10th time coming back to Hosteraria San Marco in Agno, a small town just outside of Lugano, Switzerland. This is a typical, small town restaurant like so many in southern Switzerland. They have an impressive selection of southern swiss dishes, excellent Pizza (square shaped - not round) and many specials according to the season. This time we had game, which is available in many Swiss restaurants during hunting season (Oct/Nov). The Sella di Capriolo (Deer Filet Mignon) was outstanding and the pasta appetizers are cooked to perfection. Service, overseen by Giordano the owner and headwaiter is very attentive. German, French and English spoken here. The wine selection is great and you can go up to a display table and chose from many bottles there displayed. Prices are reasonable, considering that everything is expensive in Switzerland, with the Swiss Franc high-flying and the Euro and Dollar in the pits.
