I went there on the advice of friends to buy a whisky to offer to a friend. and according to him, whisky connoisseur, the product was very good.

Basalt is located next to the now disused cave cooperative in what is now the suburbs of Agde rather than vines. This make parking easy.The space is airy with plenty of natural light. Tables are set amongst wine racks which make up the wine list. We chose from the carte rather than what looked like a popular good value set lunch menu. Unfortunately a couple of dishes we chose were unavailable, understandable as they required fresh seafood, but annoying as disappointment ensued. Our server should have pointed this out when presenting us with menus.Nevertheless, we enjoyed simple tapas starters and a dish of riz de veau and veal kidneys was a tour de force of precise cooking. Monkfish with black pasta was also successful. There are plenty of wines by the glass - just trust your host to choose. Bottles have just a 10€ mark up on caviste prices so somewhere to opt for a fine bottle from the racks distributed in the dining area and grouped by the type of food they match. We'll return and bring some friends.

This is not a restaurant on the tourist trail nor is it trying to create an artificial atmosphere. Rather it relies on the cleanliness of its lines, the qualities of its wines, the friendliness and knowledge of its staff to create its own ambience. From the moment we walked in we knew that we had again struck gold with one of J's recommendations and having placed ourselves in their hands were delighted by the procession of delicious food and well suited wines that filled the next two hours. Never has waiting for a plane been so delightful and we will be certain to dine here on our next visit - even though we will be travelling by car!
