Stamford Grand Adelaide - The Promenade Restaurant

My first impression of the Promenade was poor as the manager was terribly rude on the phone, my booking was simply to hard for her. When walking into the restaurant expecting a gourmet seafood only buffet, the feel was horrible-very out dated and old. The tables where not clothed and the cuttery was ina  cuttery bin. We were not greeted for at least 5 minutes and were served flat and warm champagne and beer. Finally the full seafood buffet that the manager had assured me was half a nursing home like meat (watery) carvery with sloppy pasta and vege. And the other half.. seafood..but the seafood was clearly frozen, warm and old.....we could not eat as we felt as though we were going to get sick. For $55 pp this was a disgrace, I feel sorry for future dinners and embarrassed for the Stanford as it generally upholds a good reputation. Chelsea.

I thought I'd add a more positive review for the Promenade as we actually quite enjoyed it. Dinner on a Wednesday night for a birthday, 6 of us shared the hot seafood platters. The chef was happy for us to change the kilpatrick oysters to half fresh, half kilpatrick. The rest of the seafood was cooked perfectly, salmon pieces, garlic prawns, lightly battered calamari and amazing fries. They don't skimp on tartare sauce either. Two garden salads on the side. Entree was garlic bread, which was a small portion, only six small pieces. Dessert for myself was the apple and rhubarb crumble, which was also very small serving size. Both were tasty though. Tea and coffee were great too. Service was attentive and polite, great view of the Glenelg foreshore, would come back.

Went on a Saturday evening with a booking. I have heard wonderful things about the seafood buffet and was genuinely looking forward to it all week. It was very busy, and a waitress greeted us and pointed to a table in the patio for our party to sit at. It was cramped. We lined up for 30 minutes in the buffet line, to be met with a giant antipasto plate, a massive bowl of caesar salad, some cold seafood items like mussels and medium tiger prawns. Various condiments adorned the buffet including lemon wedges, seafood dressing and relish. There were some cooked portions of barramundi, baked potato wedges, pork belly morsels and pasta bake. There was fresh bread and a selection of tapas style dessert morsels. The food was prepared nicley, i liked the taste of it all. What let this place down, there were not enoguh waitress staff on, we were never offered beverages, plates were not cleared from tables and the line up for what was there was really long. What was more disturing, there was little to none serving ware and as usual with a buffet, alot of spillage and cross contamination of foods and tongs. It was by far the worse kept buffet bar i have ever seen in my life. The love was just not in it, wait staff were far more interested in the larger parties. In y section the majority of guests were complainig about the food and wait times, lack of plate removals and inability to order drinks. For $65 per head, i would have expected alot better. It actually ruined our special event, so I will not return. I'm not sure if 3 items of seafood would qualify it as a seafood buffet.

Stayed at the the Stamford grand whilst in Adelaide for a work trip. As part of our corporate rate, we were entitled to the buffet breakfast each morning in the promenade. I've been to a many hotel buffet breakfasts and this one was pretty average. The buffet section was actually pretty small but it did cover all the big breke essentials including bacon, hash browns, mushrooms, sausages, tomato and of course eggs your way at the chefs counter. They have a continental breke section too for cereals and toast toppings. I was impressed with there pastry section which was small but catered for muffins, croissants and some tarts/cakes each day. They need to improve on the service and presentation of the dinning area, more staff and more focus on things like taking away emoter plates and cups etc.
