We dined here with a voucher. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If you are a fan of pub food, this is a winner - well cooked food in large serves. We couldn't finish our schnitty kilpatrick with chips and salad. If you have mobility problems there is a problem with stairs to the first floor but it is worth it. Looks out over busy James Place in the city View all feedback.
I had been to this restaurant a few times before and really enjoyed the layout, location, and ambiance. I decided to try it again on two consecutive days this time, but unfortunately, it was closed both times. This was surprising to me, as I was certain it would be open. I thought that after work, they would be open to cater to thirsty customers like myself as they had done before. However, to my disappointment, the doors were already closed well before 5:00 pm. I understand that businesses may close early if it's slow, but they had been open long enough to know that being patient pays off, as customers will return when they know you are reliably open. What really disappointed me was that I even checked with the bartender and asked what time they were closing or if they would be open in an hour, only to be given false promises.
We had an amazing meal today with great value at the restaurant. The Thai inspired Barramundi King Prawn dish was delicious and all 4 of us who ordered it were impressed. It was only $17 for the dish and a glass of wine, which we all found to be excellent value. (See photo for reference)
Absolutely fantastic 'Vego Burger' chips (yes, I refuse to say frits) full of taste and texture (vegetarian, but not vegan). Two-fisted food or with knife and fork.
I have had lunch at James Place Hotel several times. To enter the venue, you need to walk up a flight of stairs and it is in a side street (James Place) off Rundle Mall. It always seems to be busy so its best to...book. When you enter, look at the specials on the blackboard, they are great value, and include a drink (soft drink, wine or beer) in the price of a good meal which is generally about $15. They provide excellent service and the meal is of great value! I am planning on trying them out at dinner time soon too.
Happy to revisit this hidden gem in Adelaide! Great food, great service and extremely reasonable prices! Yesterday I had one of the daily specials which was the open lamb yiros, the lamb was tender and succulent with a homemade tzatziki sauce. $15.50 with a glass...of wine, couldn’t go wrong!
