El Mariachi - Acapulco de Juárez

During our trip through Mexico we stayed four nights in Acapulco. We had a room at Hotel Boca Chica, located right next door. We did not stay close to the action on purpose, we wanted to stay in a more (touristy) remote area, so we chose the Boca Chica on Caletilla. Caledilla beach where this restaurant actually lies a Palapa is a small and very local beach. Families hang here. I was the only white guy around (on all four days). And it really felt very nice to sit between the locals and enjoy the beautiful, relaxed atmosphere here on the beach. There are many restaurants here and all look quite similar. We just chose a place where many locals eat. And it was a brilliant choice at the end. This place offers a good selection of different seafood and fish. The restaurants here get their fish bought by local fishermen on the same day as served. We came here every day... it was just so good and atmosphere so great here. We had many different types of fish. Filet or all. Very good is the diabla, which is very sharp. Also very good is the fish Sol ...it is like a fish fillet roasted in an omelet. Unusual, but great! The whole fried fish (Snapper) was perfectly cooked. Crispy outside, juicy and tender inside. All we had was wonderful, except the Pulpo and the Ceviche were a bit average....but much better than in many restaurants. The only thing that can get annoying is the providers here on the beach.... there is at least one every 30 seconds. A friendly no, gracias usually does it... but all the time... We had the same waiter every day. A great guy named Diego. He always got us a good table from the first day... even one from behind when no one was available. At the second, third and fourth visit he even bought us a beer (at least four on the last day) ... he always had one and drank with us. A great guy. We didn't really speak Spanish much and he didn't really speak English, but somehow we understood and had some good conversations. Experiences like these make a holiday very special. And this place and Diego made Acapulco truly unforgettable for us. If you're in this area, you really have to come to El Mariachi and get some food... or at least a beer. Of course, if you're looking for a party and all that stuff, that's not for you. But if you want to hang around with the locals and see the side of Acapulco/Mexico... then it is! La comida era rica y con precios accesibles. Los platos resultaron ser amplios, incluso para compartir. Altamente recomendable!

And it actually felt very nice to sit between the locals and to enjoy the nice, laid-back atmosphere here on the beach. There's lots of restaurants here and all looke pretty similar. We just chose a place where lots of locals were eating. And it was a brillant choice in the end. This place serves a good range of different seafood and fish. The restaurants here get their fish from the local fishermen bought on the same day as served. We came here every day...it was just so good and the mood and atmosphere here so great. We had lots of different kinds of fish. Filet or whole. Very good is the Diabla which is very spicy. Also very good is the fish sol ..it's like a fish filet fried in an omelette. Unusual, but great!
