Overall, my lunch experience was decent. The food was satisfactory and met my expectations, but didn't particularly stand out. The service was adequate, but there were moments where it felt a bit lacking. The atmosphere was average; it was neither too vibrant nor too dull, making it a suitable place for a casual meal.

This was so much fun! Delicious home cooking! Huge facility. Sits right beside Old Town Abilene, and has atmosphere that suits. They had a marvelous server named Elias who was charming and very professional. In fact, all of the servers were terrific. Can't wait to go back! With meal prices ranging from $10 to $30, this restaurant offers a varied menu appealing to different tastes. While dishes like Country Fried Steak and hearty sandwiches received praise for their flavor, several diners reported inconsistencies in service and wait times, with some meals taking far too long to arrive. The atmosphere, though average, suits casual dining. Highlights include friendly staff, particularly an engaging server named Elias, which enhances the overall experience. Despite some setbacks, there are redeeming qualities that make it a worthwhile spot for a satisfying lunch or breakfast, though consistency may vary.

The best breakfast in town! The food was served quickly, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Plus, the prices were quite reasonable.
This place had multiple items that would normally cause me to lower the rating, but overall was a five star experience. We had called ahead to make sure they were open, but then arrived at the same time another customer was walking away because all of the doors were locked. Finally realized the open door is on the side away from the Handicapped parking. We entered and were seated by someone who continued to show evidence that she did not know the basics of how the restaurant was to be run, but s … – show
I hope the owner of this restaurant sees this. It's crucial to address the behavior of the tall waitress with the noticeable teeth before she negatively impacts your business. I was seated just ten feet from the front counter and found myself with an empty coffee cup for a good portion of my visit because she was too preoccupied with badmouthing the owner and another staff member, all while acting as if she were the busiest person in the world. There were fewer than 15 patrons in the restaurant at the time. She was audibly cursing, which was quite inappropriate.
Everything was excellent except for the Prime Rib, which was terrible. We could only manage three bites of each of ours—it was raw, undercooked, and lacked any flavor. We’ll just consider it a learning experience.
Excellent service. I had a BLT and hubby had the taco salad. Both really good!! Onion rings were fresh and hot.

Finally realized the open door is on the side away from the Handicapped parking. We entered and were seatedby someone who continued to show evidence that she did not know the basics of how the restaurant was to be run, but she washelpful. Just clueless. On Friday night, they offer a prime rib dinner for $25+ or a buffet for $17. We had the buffet, whichconsists of a salad bar (with spring mix instead of iceberg) and a hot bar totaling 19 items. My hubby enjoyed four of theall-you-can-eat steaks. I tried the fish. We were also offered baked potatoes and dinner rolls, which really helped, since myteeth don't allow me to enjoy the steaks. It's really very economical, if you can enjoy steak. Our waitress did not show upuntil we were well into our meal, but another server stepped in and did a great job doubling up. Like I said, individually, manyof these things would have been 4 stars. But all together, it was a five star dinner, and we would return.
Usually the food is good, this time it was much to be desired, had the buffet and everything was over done, won't do that again. When we ordered off the menu all was Good.
Sat down immediately but didn't see a server for 30 minutes. Took an hour to order and 30 more minutes to receive our meal. Once they brought it to us, it was wrong.(wanted fried catfish, served grilled) They offered to replace it but I didn't want towait longer. It was better than expected (garlic and butter soaked). The brown gravy on my wife's chicken fried steak was sosalty it was unedible. The highlight of the meal was the salad, fresh and delicious. Highly recommend if you have 3hrs tospend and don't care about getting what you ordered. They did comp our meal so we appreciated that and may try again if Mr. Ksdoesn't open back up..
We had both a breakfast and dinner at this restaurant in Old Abilene Town . The food was wonderful! Hot and fresh. Service was just great also. The menu offers a wide variety, so don 't hesitate to eat here. You won 't be disappointed
I 'd love to be able to comment on the food, but I waited 15 minutes to be seated while the staff flapped their jaws. Multiple other people showed up and left due to the lack of service while I waited. I was trying to give them the benefit of thedoubt. Indeed, this was the Hitching Post in Abilene. I even peeked around the corner into the other room where I was seen andpromptly ignored. Meanwhile, as soon as I got back to my car someone was outside watering flowers. So yeah, bad service, and Ivery much know where I was, thanks. As I said, I 'm not the only one who walked in, waited and then left. And no. It 's not seatyourself . There 's very clearly a sign when you go in that says, Please wait to be seated . The menus are even up at the hosts 'station.????

I ate here yesterday for lunch and the food was delicious and the waitress was friendly! I will definitely go back when I go back to Abilene
This place is incredible and a great place to bring your family and friends. The staff is super polite, considerate and will go beyond and beyond to ensure that your visit and experience is remarkable. They also greeted me with a warm welcome house, as I have been for the military for some time. This is undoubtedly a highly recommended institution.
As an individual who has lived all over the world, I have eaten in many beautiful facilities. The Hitching Post is far in my Top 5. The steaks are amazing and cooked for perfection. The service is one of the reasons why my friends and I go back week after week. I highly recommend it. They go beyond and beyond!!

I felt uncomfortable and our waitress appeared to be stressed. The food was decent, but I expected more.
