Super cocktails in this beautiful bar. Nice service, casual people, great ambience! A spotlight for Aarau!

Not finding many bars in the town for my beer crawl I got desperate and ventured into OscarOne, a hip looking Lounge, CockTail and Wine Bar. I say desperate as these are really not establishments I feel comfortable in! I'm not hip or cool enough for these kind of places, I'm an ordinary fella who has simple pleasures......football and beer, not really into strobe lighting, fancy cocktails and showing off my new designer gear, if I had any! Took a long time to get served, a long time. Which was funny as there really wasn't anyone else at the bar. Sure the place was busy but I was the only one sitting up at the bar. The two staff were doing the age old art of looking busy without actually doing anything, you know.... moving around here and there, the long walk, a wipe here and wipe there, pick up a few glasses, etc. Having said that though the service was friendly all the same. Anyway, got served eventually, got a Franziskaner Weissbier, which was pretty difficult to stomach, but that;s just me, as I'm not a great fan of Weissbiers. The route to the toilet is a real hazard, a very steep spiral staircase to the basement, in a darkly lit bar it was a bit too steep and I'm sure if this was Ireland it would definitely be popular for those that like to partake in frivolous insurance claims! Had a nice interior, quite high class, all nicely decorated and stylish, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, a good crowd in for a mid day Saturday, albeit a bit quiet, but you know it didn't do anything for me, so overall OscarOne didn't impress me too much.

The bar opened in April 2015, in February the owners were interviewed in a local newspaper article where they stated that their target group is a sophisticated audience. Further mentioning that they are focused on achieving an upscale standard where people can feel comfortable. So when visiting this bar for the first time my expectations were high and I was really disappointed. It started with the menu which was handed to me by the waiter; it was not only stained with drinks it was torn so badly that it was nearly in two pieces. Their OscarOne bier is the most common and standard bier which you can get in Switzerland (standard Feldschlösschen) and not upscale at all. The waitress seemed stressed and was unfriendly and impatient. The finger food variety was very limited and the main offer was a variety of tarte flambee (type French pizza from the Alsace) which a local bar just around the corner has been serving for years which does not seem very innovative for such an upscale establishment. When coming back from the men’s room they have a marking on the door (to ensure that you don’t take the wrong door), with the most shabbiest piece of paper (dirty and drooping edges) stuck on the door with a piece of adhesive tape. My recommendation would be to give this place a miss, they don’t even seem to try hard.

My best friend is a habit and for me was the first time to see the beautiful city of Aarau. We went too late for a drink. I think this is a cool place with a pleasant and elegant atmosphere, cocktails are delicious, Rouge Tonic especially recommended. The staff is professional. I recommend this place.

With my husband I discovered this bar in the center of the beautiful Aarau: Oscarone. Elegant but cozy location inside. We're sitting outside because it was a big day of the sun. We had fresh bread with jam and culminating croissant a delicious cappuccino. The staff was really friendly.
