Coffee review only: Really good espresso drinks. Had a double espresso and a skim latte. Both solid. One suggestion if I may: if you don’t serve the double in a large paper cup that’d be nice, but it’s a minor critique as the coffees were good. View all feedback.
What Sandra V doesn't like about Coal Yard Cafe:
I wish I could give 3.5 stars. I went here both before and during the pandemic. The service was great the few times I've been. The food is bland and the portions are small, but the coffee is good for the price. Pastries are also generally decent. Breakfast burrito (takeout) — very little seasoning and the beans were very wet but still hard; it's been at least three years and I still remember this as one of the worst... View all feedback.
Still wondering why we were charged $3.5 for $2 coffee. Seems the old proprietor is a capitalist thief.
My new favorite cafe. Make sure you ask for him Nick! He is so sweet and has the best customer service! Amazing coffee, so happy I found this cafe and met Nick!!!
Great coffee very reasonably priced. Nice to have real dishes, mugs and silverware. Friendly staff! Take a hike on the East Hill recreationway and stop in!
Very small but cute cafe that was perfect for breakfast as we were travelling. The dishes are filling and delicious. They had taro milk tea, which I think is seasonal. I wanted to get it to try but I was too full at the end. Nonetheless, I was impressed by that. For a small upstage New York, it was experimental and not only offering the usual, typical breakfast items.
I have concerns about the treatment of Asian-American customers at this establishment. Friends of mine have reported mistreatment and ridicule.
