The Santa okonomiyaki restaurant is not only clean, but the taste is excellent and affordable. On May 3rd, after a long time, I made a reservation by phone and went. I had draft beer and oolong tea, mentaiko and cheese monjayaki, ebitama okonomiyaki, edamame, tofu yaki, and yakisoba. I couldn't finish everything, so I took the okonomiyaki home. Payment was made by putting shochu in (¥4800?). Santa's grilled dishes are the best. I have eaten various foods in the home country, Susukino, and of course Hakodate, but Santa is the best. I can confidently take my friends there.
The pork was cooked with a crispy outside and tender inside, giving it a rich and flavorful taste. The sauce was creamy and mild, complemented well by the mayonnaise which balanced out the acidity. The tofu was cut into 8 pieces and grilled to perfection, served with ponzu sauce. The outside was crispy while the inside was soft and hot. The shrimp yakisoba consisted of thin, straight noodles with shrimp, cabbage, and bell peppers. The noodles were firm and not mushy, with a savory and flavorful sauce. Although I couldn't try the okonomiyaki at the counter, both the okonomiyaki and yakisoba exceeded my expectations. Located off the main road, the restaurant may be hard to find at first, but the friendly couple managing the place made the dining experience enjoyable, whether dining solo at the counter or in a group.
I visited soon after the restaurant opened on a weekday and ordered the pork and egg okonomiyaki for 550 yen. The owner and staff were very friendly. We enjoyed the delicious okonomiyaki cooked on a clean and well-maintained teppan. I definitely want to visit again, next time to try the monjayaki.
