Was Yugo Matsumura at スマイル a mag?
The restaurant has an elegant atmosphere that feels like being somewhere in Europe, the interior is clean and the food is delicious. The building may be old, but the rooms have been renovated and are very clean. Located in a place surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and Hachijo Fuji, it is sure to provide a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The hotel has a large communal bath, which was a lifesaver as all the public hot springs in town were closed due to the pandemic. The staff are all very kind and made our stay comfortable. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly without any issues. The highlight was the delicious milk and yogurt at breakfast. The scrambled eggs were fluffy, the French toast was soft and the breakfast overall is highly recommended. From the ocean view room, we could even see Jersey cows relaxing in the Yūyū pasture. (No smell at all.) While we also visited other hotels by rental car, I think this one is my favorite. Thank you for a comfortable stay.

The renovated large bath is refreshing, and I look forward to seeing how it will change in the future. I stayed on the mountain side this time, but if you stay here, I highly recommend the ocean view for its stunning scenery and sense of openness. There are stairs, but the staff will gladly help carry heavy luggage, which is much appreciated. Although star gazing on the rooftop was canceled, stepping outside late at night revealed a sky full of stars.
- When you go out to the rooftop in the middle of the night, you can see a wonderful starry sky. (There are some nights when the noise from the boiler on the rooftop is bad, but on quiet nights, you can enjoy the starry sky while listening to the sound of the waves and insects). - The breakfast made with Jersey milk, curry using that milk, and French toast were very delicious. - The hotel staff are friendly. - In order to go to the newly renovated open-air bath (not a hot spring, but with a good view), you have to pass through the (quite hot) indoor bath, and an elderly person was saying "it's too much, too much". - There are no convenience stores or restaurants nearby, so those who do not have meals included need to be careful (there is a microwave available. The hotel store has cup ramen available. It would be nice to have some light meals available). - We were picked up by a rental bike shop on the island, rented a moped, and enjoyed driving around the island, visiting spots such as Tamashiki, hot springs, waterfalls, and the sea.
