The dish was rather plain since it did not have any egg or meat. However, I was surprised to find that the pancake part contained egg. I had requested to exclude the pancake part, but it was still included. The restaurant might not have been able to remove it, but I cannot say for certain. On a positive note, the meal was affordable.
I decided to visit this restaurant based on the recommendation of Happy Cow and was pleasantly surprised to find that many of the customers that night were German. The main language spoken was English, but I was able to communicate in Japanese to customize my okonomiyaki. I wish I could give this place five stars because they went above and beyond to meet my requests. The owner was lovely, the staff were friendly, and the food was so delicious that I ended up ordering another half portion!
Call it my gut instinct but I just don’t trust these places. Yes they say we can do vegan but do they really care enough? Maybe I’m just paranoid and grossed out by the x contamination but my food was pretty bad (udon noodle oko) my husbands was a little better (soba oko). Communication was limited and I dunno. I just don’t vibe it. Tasted like egg. And smelt in there.
When booking a table and informed I was vegan, they say it was okay. However, once I sat down, I double checked the ingredients with them. I showed them the vegan green card (in Japanese) and sadly they told me it was not possible to cater for me... Not sure what animal derived product they use but their vegan options don't seem to be vegan sadly.
