This restaurant is amazing! I tried the chicken and lava chocolate wheels, and they were both delicious. They tasted like filled waffles. I also ordered a cheddar bacon and tapioca custard to go, and I'm hoping it will stay fresh for breakfast tomorrow.
This stand outside the front of a fabulous vegan restaurant is a hidden gem. I highly recommend their desserts. We arrived at 6:50pm on a Monday night and they were still open. We bought 4 desserts and were pleasantly surprised to receive an extra one for free as they were closing. The staff was friendly and the desserts, especially the strawberry custard and chocolate lava cakes, were incredibly delicious. A must-try if you are in Kaohsiung.
However, when I finally visited their stand in Kaohsiung, I was disappointed to find out that they were charging NT$10 more for their strawberry wheel cakes in Hsinchu compared to Kaohsiung. This pricing difference seemed unfair, especially since other vendors did not follow the same practice. Despite this, I enjoyed all four flavors that I tried (excluding the brown sugar mochi). My favorite savory flavor was the three cup chicken, while my favorite sweet flavor was the custard tapioca. The only downside was that I would have preferred the wheel cakes to be warmer. They also gave out NT$5 discount vouchers for each wheel cake purchased, which you can use on your next visit. Remember to bring your own container to be more environmentally friendly.
Infront of the same shop as the burger joint. Nice dessert after a meal.
Read more in this vegan Kaohsiung guide: [hidden link] If you are in Kaohsiung, you need to try this one-of-a-kind shop. It has veganized a Japanese street dessert, known as imagawayaki or obanyaki, which is a circular shaped grilled pancake with red bean or custard inside. Wheels of Fortune cakes make 5 flavors (plus seasonal offerings): Lava chocolate cookie, custard with tapioca pearls, brown sugar mochi, and two savory flavors: bacon potato and three cup chicken. They are only TW$25-30 each, which is not even US$1. I especially love their sweet flavors. The lava chocolate cookie has chocolate sauce gushing out once you’ve taken the first bite. It is going to be messy, but it is worth it as it tastes amazing. And the custard in the other flavor tastes like the dairy custard. One of the best desserts you can get. The food cart is located outside another vegan place called Ye Shu Shu Shi which will be introduced later in this guide.
