Fairground delights: unveiling the top sweets of carnival season
When the last snowflakes have fallen and it is slowly getting warmer again, the time of the village fair comes again. At least once a year, every marketplace hosts a village fair with attractions such as merry-go-rounds, Ferris wheels or even bumper cars. But more importantly, the time of roasted almonds, cotton candy and gingerbread hearts - even though it's no longer Christmas - also begins again.
Hach, how sweet the fair is
If you walk through the streets, peppered with a myriad of stalls, there is a smell from the left and from the right. Sometimes you can't tell which is more convincing, but which are the most common fairground sweets?
- Cotton candy
Not only does cotton candy look like a sweet little miracle from the outside, it also puts you on cloud nine in terms of taste - a little sticky, but after all, it is spun sugar. In the meantime, you can even buy "cotton candy" flavored grapes in the supermarket - and yes, they do taste like cotton candy...
- Roasted nuts
The best known are, of course, the roasted almonds, but in addition, cashews, macadamia, walnuts, actually any other kind of nuts, but also sunflower seeds are roasted and sugared. You can even find already flavored roasted nuts with, for example, cinnamon, sometimes even with chocolate. - Chocolate fruits
Which brings us to our chocolate representative: the chocolate fruits. Whether grapes, strawberries, banana or pineapple - perhaps more exclusive with other fruits (of the season), these little morsels disappear super-fast with a little taste explosion in the mouth. Whether with milk, white or dark chocolate is up to you. - Gingerbread hearts
Of course, you can just wear the expressions of love on the little gingerbread hearts around your neck, but you can also snack on them. Only you should not wait too long, because the gingerbread from the fair is already a few days later almost to bite teeth. - Popcorn
The small corn dessert is not only found in the cinema, it also scores points at the fair, especially due to its size. With one bite, the small puffed corn kernels are in the mouth and they can also be provided with the most diverse flavors and also with caramel. Chocolate can also be found in one or the other bag. For lovers of slightly different tastes, there is also salted popcorn or even a mixture of both. - Kürtőskalács
The pastry here conjures up a sweet yet very pleasant taste in our mouths with its cinnamon note and yeast dough. Without chocolate at all. But be careful: you should not confuse it with the tree trunk cake. - Crackers and quark balls
Another small treat are the crackers or also called muffins. Also made of yeast dough, their shape makes them perfect for the small after-hunger. Also, quark balls join the list of yeast dough pastries, but they are hard to beat in their fluffiness due to the added quark. - Waffles
Of course, the waffles can not be left out. Whether with cream, cherries, chocolate or cinnamon and sugar. Such a fresh waffle on hand drives away worries as in an instant.
Not only sweets
Of course, a fair offers a good selection not only for those with a sweet tooth. Also, for the lovers of the more savory dishes, or even both (?!), you can find a little something:
- Lángos
There have already been some yeast dough representatives among the sweets. One of these representatives can also be found among the savory dishes: the lángos. Originally from Hungary, this snack has now secured a firm place at our folk festivals. Mostly with sour cream and cheese, sometimes also with bacon and / or vegetables peppered. - Crêpes
Crêpes also come in a myriad of different variations. Most people think of the sweet options first: Cinnamon and sugar, applesauce, Nutella. But there are also savory alternatives with onions, bacon and sour cream. These are exactly the ones you should perhaps give a chance.
- French fries
A classic not only in the open-air swimming pool, but also at folk festivals: the portion of fries. Whether as French fries barrier, just like that or as a variant with chili and cheese. - Bratwurst
Another true classic: the bratwurst, whether in the currywurst version with a bun or fries or as a simple bratwurst in a napkin on your hand. Who can say no to this? - Baked potatoes
