A big shoutout to Cotton Patch Cafe for offering a free entree to veterans on Veterans Day. My wife and I both ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes. She had country gravy, while I opted for their delicious jalapeño gravy generously poured over my chicken. Wow, this was truly comforting food on a chilly November night. We savored our meals and shared a square of chocolate Dr Pepper cake topped with ice cream. The cake would have been even better warm, but overall, it was a fantastic meal.
Tamara gets the brightest gold stars! The food was as good as usual, but the service was even better. We killed how long it would take with only 1 Waitstaff, but it was better than with 3 average servers. Are you looking for Tamara in a Marvel Comic soon? Wonder Woman of the Restaurants!

The Covid barriers, while necessary, somewhat diminish the warm charm of the space. Also, the cleaning solution used on the lovely wooden tables leaves a slightly sticky residue. **Service:** I received a warm welcome and was promptly seated. However, I wish my server had smiled more, as their serious expression set a somewhat off tone—possibly due to the evident staffing challenges. During a busy dinner with a full house, only three servers were working. I noticed one server taking a drink order from one table while carrying dirty dishes from another that had been waiting to be cleared. Whether typical or not, it highlighted the staff shortage. Even as the evening slowed, some things were overlooked—my plates weren’t cleared, my water wasn’t refilled despite assurances, and my dessert took 25 minutes to arrive and came without the sauce. Still, I appreciate the effort the team put in during a hectic shift. **Food:** The food here is truly delicious—from the rolls and meatloaf to the Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce. I tried quite a few dishes and enjoyed every bite. Just be sure to savor it fresh and hot right at the cafe! **Highlight:** The buttercake dessert is something I had never encountered or even imagined. It’s a thin, golden, crispy cake topped with a luscious cheesecake layer, finished with a light caramel sauce and whipped cream. I instantly fell in love with it—easily the best dessert I’ve ever had. Absolutely fantastic!
We were a party of five and had to wait quite a while before anyone came to seat us, which is why I gave the service a rating of 3. We eventually had to seek out someone to help us. However, once seated, our waitress was wonderful—friendly, accommodating, and attentive. The food was what you'd expect from this kind of restaurant: flavorful but nothing fancy, with simple presentation. The best part was the bill; since most of us chose lunch specials, our total for all five came to less than $60!
