Was Jillian MacKillop at Charrovida a mag?
I always love their food. They have great flavor and portions. I love going their with my vegan/vegetarian friends because their items start vegan and then you can add meat if you like. This last visit the service was off from their usual. We only saw our waitress at the start and end of the meal. Another waitress brought out the food and we were not able to get drink refills. Usually they are more attentive. Still on... What Linda Brinegar dislikes about Charrovida:
Beautifully appointed restaurant in a lovely grouping of other eateries and shops. Our hostess and waitress seemed irritated at our questions. She was short with us even though there was only one other table of guests. The food was mediocre at best. Bland. The chickpeas and rice that came with the meals were seasoned with only garlic which left everything tasting harsh and the same. I am a chef and had excitedly plan... View all feedback.
Now, onto the food—oh my goodness!!! We started with yucca street fries and shared a hemp tamale, and then we both ordered the three sisters taco plates with mushroom tacos. The flavors were out of this world, and everything tasted incredibly fresh, as if the vegetables had just been picked that morning! I was initially hesitant about the Hola Hemp tamale, but it exceeded my expectations! My only minor complaint is that the yucca fries came with salt when we specifically requested none. Since we're both sensitive to salt, even a little can make dining out tricky. Sorry, no pictures this time—we were too busy enjoying the delicious food and didn’t have an Instagram-worthy snap to share. But we did take some leftovers home! I think we've found our new favorite restaurant! Update: We visited during Sonoran Restaurant Week. Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t quite as stellar. The chef might have had an off night, or perhaps it was the timing (something we’ve noticed in Tucson), but this time our tortillas were cold and the food was lukewarm. Also, despite specifying no salt on the yucca fries, there was a pile of salt and pepper at the bottom of the bowl. Please improve on this! Our first visit was so promising at CharroVida, and I hope you can maintain that level of quality moving forward.
I absolutely loved the food here! It was fantastic! The mushroom tacos are incredibly delicious!
This restaurant offers a fantastic blend of Mediterranean and Southwest cuisine, featuring both excellent meat and vegan choices. The jackfruit carnitas taste just like pulled pork, and the protein-rich chorizo is truly delicious. My wife tried the meat tacos, which were fantastic, while I opted for a build-your-own bowl with vegan options. Our waiter was attentive and gave great recommendations, and the live music added to the enjoyable atmosphere. The vibe is fun and relaxed, and the prices are quite reasonable, with most dishes ranging from $12 to $15. If you're looking for vegetarian options, they have some excellent and unique choices available.
Nicole was our bartender, and she could benefit from some training in customer service. While the food is fantastic, the service leaves much to be desired. It appears that many others share this sentiment.
I ate here several years ago and it was very good. Today I took a friend there for brunch. We were seated right away, but it took 10 minutes for water. The OJ did not come until we asked again when the breakfast was served. I ordered my breakfast without cheese but it came with cheese. I did not want to send it back so I could avoid another extended waiting. Our breakfast were extremely salty. A bite of the scrambled eggs tasted bitter before of too much salt. When we were ready to pay, we could not find our waiter. I went to the front desk to see whether I could pay there. Nope. The hostess asked many questions about what our waiter looked like. Well, I could not remember all details she needed so she asked me to go back to the table to keep waiting. Finally another lady came by and asked what we needed and she was able to take my credit card.
