The Joker and Thief, located at 90 Terrigal Esplanade, is a restaurant-bar with a design by Fabric Architecture and interiors styled by Stewart Highfield. Inspired by Bob Dylan, the interior blends Mid Century Modern with Art Deco and a touch of luxe Rock n Roll edge. The dusty pink walls and timber panelling complement the deep hues, velvet upholstery, brass details, and marble tabletops. Once upstairs, guests enter a world of unpretentious decadence. Situated on a beachside strip, the venue offers balmy ocean breezes, flowing cocktails, and transforms from a bright lunch spot to a moody, plush night-time restaurant bar.
Despite some issues with noise levels and service, this beachfront restaurant offers delicious cocktails and fantastic gnocchi. The menu is fresh and well-presented, with generous servings and a pleasant atmosphere. While some patrons had communication issues and experienced poor COVID-safe practices, others enjoyed the beautiful view and friendly staff. The whiskey sour was particularly strong, and despite some seating mishaps and noise complaints, most diners appreciated the overall dining experience.
