Feedback
Ivar's, a long-standing Seattle seafood institution, evokes both nostalgia and disappointment among recent diners. Once a beloved destination for its fresh fish and hearty chowder, the restaurant struggles with consistency and service quality in recent months. Guests report overcooked meals, incorrect orders, and escalating prices that overshadow the experience. While some cherish the traditional fried seafood options and stunning waterfront views, others lament the diminished quality compared to previous visits. Despite its challenges, dedicated patrons continue to find sustenance and comfort in cherished memories, hoping for a return to the restaurant's former glory through management's attention to the feedback.
I would say that the food is above average. The Copper Salmon was there so we tried that and it didn’t disappoint. I wanted to eat fish and chips as well but I think that the waiter made a mistake and just got me a piece of breaded fish. It was just OK. The chowders were really good though we tried 2. Really good food at a higher end price point.
Let me preface this with, we live in an area with lots of British expats, so fish and chips here at home are outstanding. At Ivar 's, the portions are small, the chips are shoestring, limp, and a bit soggy. The prices are high for what you get, but the seagulls just love them ! (Maybe if the fries were better, there would be fewer fat seagulls, or even fewer seagulls ? That being said, you can get a variety of fish (including salmon . They have 3 chowders....white, red, and a salmon one. Their white is pretty good, didn 't try the others. When we were ordering, several people around us ordered their chowder in a sourdough bowl, and the bowl was later given to the seagulls. Hmmm. Ok, so now we 've been, (been there, done that, got the shirt , so no real need to return.
It was fine. I thought is was a little on the pricey side $17.50 for fish and chips). It was not a batter that I was used to, it was a breaded style coating. Lots of fries. The clam chowder soap was really good.
Really enjoyed the Taste of the NW entree. Fish was cooked perfectly. The wine list is pretty good, with some creative cocktails as well. Do your best to get a table by the window for spectacular views of Lake Union.
Perfect fall weather on a Sunday morning for a reservation and was lucky to be sat on their outdoor patio. Great views as you are dockside on Lake Union, but a bit noisy with traffic crossing the bridge overhead. Boaters can pull up to their dock to dinein a 3 hour window. Food was solid and just filling enough. Service was fast and efficient. We were some of the first to be satand order as they opened at 11:30. Got one of their free parking spots too!
