Nestled in West Seattle, this charming diner offers a unique blend of friendly service and a cozy atmosphere, reminiscent of a neighborhood bar where everyone feels welcome. While some dishes, like the eggs benedict and biscuits and gravy, have drawn criticism for their lackluster execution, other offerings, such as the tuna melt and the ambiance, create a delightful experience. Regulars appreciate the casual setting, ideal for watching sports or enjoying a family brunch. With its attractive decor and accommodating staff, this eatery is worth a visit, even if navigating the entrance poses a slight challenge.

Was Lee at Chelan Cafe a mag?
I have always experienced excellent service at this restaurant. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The coffee is decent. There are parking lots on both sides of the restaurant, so if one is full, you can usually find a spot on the other side. View all feedback.
What Eliza Gulgowski dislikes about Chelan Cafe:
I stood at the entrance, ready to be seated for about 10 minutes, but no one acknowledged me, so I left. During this time, I saw a server drop butter on her shoe, but she did not wash her hands after cleaning her shoe and the floor (disgusting). View all feedback.
Food was good. Lots of breakfast options. Sadly, service severly lacked on a Monday morning just before 10am. Was only a few tables with customers in the anger room with 2 servers manning. Took a while to get the food ordered. Then we were never offered coffee refills until my wife and I were done with our meal, plates stacked, credit card ready and waited about 10 minutes while the servers were busy doing side work. The food had been cooked in a timely manner and served to us hot. So the issues strictly land on the servers and not the kitchen. Was disappointing for a long standing food establishment in the area. And a breakfast place really needs to prioritize coffee service.
I visited Chelan's after a disappointing experience at Loretta's in South Park, where I waited 25 minutes and was completely ignored. At Chelan's, my food was in front of me within 10 minutes. I have been a regular at this establishment since 1968 when it was frequented by steelworkers and longshoremen. I worked at Bethlehem Steel/Seattle Steel for 27 years, and both of my sons worked there while in high school. Unfortunately, the current bar staff at Chelan's treat me poorly, despite my long history with the place. My ex-wife, Karen, also worked at the steel mill and later used to come to the EBB TIDE to work on her laptop after we separated. As a result, I am quite familiar with the restaurant's history.
This was my first time visiting this diner. The food was decent overall. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich, and while it was tasty, it was prepared differently than I expected. Instead of being deep-fried, it was made with French toast. Despite my initial disappointment, I found it to be enjoyable in its own way. My friend had the chicken fried steak, which he had tried before. He mentioned that it was better this time, suggesting that consistency may be an issue. The service was a bit slow and inattentive, even though the restaurant didn't seem very busy. I will give it another chance since the prices are quite reasonable.
