Opal offers a mixed dining experience. Guests had a family get-together with cold food, mixed-up orders, and loud celebrations. Another party experienced slow service, limited menu, overcooked dishes, and delays despite good service. On the other hand, the food quality and fine dining experience were praised by some customers. The establishment's architectural design, delicious food, and excellent customer service received accolades. However, issues with food quality, service, delays, and a negative experience were highlighted in other reviews. With a range of opinions, Opal's reputation is a mixed bag where taste and atmosphere clash with service and efficiency.
Limited menu. Order came out very slowly. It 's family style, so I would expect the food would be served at the same time. However, each dish was served to us separately. It was on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was only half full. We ordered the lobster laksa noodle soup, but the order was messed up two times. It was the second dish that came out, but turned out the corrected dish came out last when everyone was somewhat full. Walnut shrimp and sea bass were over cooked in my opinion. BBQ pork is too salty. Despite getting the wrong order, service was good though. The receptionist would call ahead of time to make sure high chairs are ready. However, given the price, I would expect the food quality to be better given vast options of Chinese food in the SGV area.
We came here once before and had a pleasant experience so we thought of coming back as a large family get together. Unfortunately the experience was not the same. The food came out cold. There was one dish that was particularly bad, the chili garlic chicken. Our orders were mixed up with other tables. There was also a very loud celebration that went on the entire time we were eating and could not hear each other speak.
The service is quite poor. The waiters/waitresses only talk to themselves and not waiting on the tables.
The food was not as good as our previous visit. Noodle is hard, undercooked. Fish is not that fresh.
I had lunch with my father and my son at this restaurant. We ordered Wonton soup and appetizers, which were delicious. My first Old Fashioned cocktail was a bit weak, but the second one was better. My beef dip was just average deli meat and the sourdough bread was not the best quality. My father's prosciutto grilled cheese sandwich and my son's cheeseburger looked good. However, for a $160.00 lunch for three people with tip, we expected higher quality. The dessert and service were excellent, but the overall food quality needs to match the high prices.
