Nestled in a charming location, this restaurant offers an array of experiences, though opinions on its quality vary significantly. While some patrons enjoy friendly service and delightful dishes, others express disappointment over overpriced and mediocre meals. The ambiance is generally appreciated, and there are highlights such as exceptional Sunday roasts and reasonably priced drinks. A recent renovation adds to its aesthetic appeal, yet the inconsistency in food quality leaves room for improvement. Despite mixed reviews, it's clear that this establishment has potential, appealing to those who value a warm atmosphere and well-prepared pub classics.

We were in Ripon for my hen party, and my friends booked us a private dining experience in the Winter Garden here. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the food was fantastic. The owner was exceptionally accommodating, and we had a wonderful afternoon filled with delicious food and drinks. xx View all feedback.
What Sheila Park dislikes about The Sawley Arms:
We found this restaurant to be quite overpriced and unremarkable. I ordered the prawn cocktail, which was disappointing, while my husband had the soup, which was just average. My chicken Caesar salad was also okay, and although my husband's fish pie was tasty, it was so hot that he couldn’t eat it for 20 minutes. I felt it was rather cheeky to add an £8 tip without our consent, especially considering the already high... View all feedback.
I felt it was rather cheeky to add an £8 tip without our consent, especially considering the already high prices on the menu. The surroundings were pleasant and the staff were friendly, but there are definitely better options around in terms of both quality and cost. Service: 5, Location: 5.
We saw the sign for the pub as we were driving along the B6265 towards Pateley Bridge and popped in for a couple of pints. Lovely place, friendly staff and nice and warm in front of the fire. Service: 5 Location: 5
This is a lovely pub with a fantastic pie and delicious chunky chips. They also have an impressive variety of sandwiches to choose from.
Charming pub and restaurant! I will definitely come back when I'm in the area again.
This was our first visit. The food was very disappointing. Not in the same league as the nearby Chequers Inn where we have eaten frequently over the last fifteen years. To start, a mediocre prawn cocktail. For mains, the Haddock was excellent but the chips were inedible. They tasted rancid and weren’t even cooked through or crispy on the outside. The Gammon wasn’t bad, but I’ve had better in Weatherspoons. The portion of peas was so minute that it was pointless. And both fried eggs had been cooked until they were rock solid. After that we didn’t dare risk dessert. On the positive side, the drinks were excellent and the young lady serving was delightful. We were given £7:50 off the bill as compensation, which seemed wholly inadequate for a ruined evening. We paid the remaining £55 and departed as swiftly as possible. Never to return again.
