I ordered prawns on the 18th and they were absolutely delicious—definitely a five-star experience! So, I decided to return on the 21st because those prawns were so huge and flavorful, and they only took 20 minutes to prepare. However, my experience on the 21st was quite disappointing. We needed a quick meal as we were driving through Piet Retief, but this was so much more enjoyable than just that! Great ambiance, a delicious pulled pork sandwich with chips, great beer, fabulous malva pudding, and a yummy milkshake to top it all off! Our server was very friendly and helpful, and the owner also greeted us with warmly. I’d be there all the time if I lived there!
We've been advised to make a stop a Piet Retief on our way from Johannesburg to Saint-lucia. Because it was half way and also cause of The nice restaurant of this town. Have no regret! We loved it, i had a beautiful grilled fresh hake with handcut french fries, my boys loved their proper burger, their homemade malva pudding was just perfect for us (i'm french pastry chef, so picky ...anyway our experience was so great that we made a stop there on our way back to Joburg. Friendly young waiters, beautiful ambiance with the fireplace. Go, you'll enjoy it
Very disappointing! Will not recommend Munch Restaurant to others at all. We were referred to Munch as having lovely food . Not at all what we have experienced! Traveling for business and wanting to support local as we always do turned out te be awful. Being served cold food, burned steak and pork belly with hair on it. Waited long for our food. Only have two waiters and these youngsters were running up and down to serve customers. No music, very cold in the restaurant and not a welcoming atmosphere at all. I would suggest that management are more involved.
Delicious food and excellent service from Slie, who was very attentive to our needs.
I completely agree with the other reviews—this place is a gem in a modest town! The burgers were amazing, and the double-fried potato chips were delightful. The service was warm, welcoming, and respectful. My only minor complaint is that the radio/dance music didn't quite match the tasteful rustic decor, ambiance, and lighting of the restaurant. I will definitely be sure to stop by when I'm in the area again!
